Rest it on the bridge. That works relatively well and, with gut strings, is
good for the sound.

Hi Dick,
I know of no textual source that does not mention resting the pinky on
the soundboard. A raised pinky is however quite frequently seen in
iconography.

It is not critical, as long as it is relaxed. Curled pinky is an
anatomical hazard.
