Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! As we celebrate this day of Thanksgiving
in the United States, I have had several people send note to me today to
make a pledge to our AKC CHF Malignant Histiocytosis Study Fundraiser.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday. Yes you can still make a

This is my question: someone told me I shouldn't take him out at night at

At what time in the evening do you pick up and put away his water bowl at

It is a sad Thanksgiving for the Bohlig house.
Kodiak, Ch CAR-MAR's R Lad Kodiak, NDD, CGC, passed away after a month
long illness. He would have been 11 years old January 19, 2003.
Kodiak was the sweetest berner that I have met. He was very responsive
to learning commands, loved to be with
All evaluations - OFA, CERF, GDC - except PennHIP are
verifiable online. GDC does not indicate whether or
not the dog was affected or unaffected - just that it
was evaluated BUT unaffected evaluations are found in
Berner-Garde. Also, my first concern is that the dog
WAS evaluated - not whether
We just went through all this. I missed how old the puppy is but I can tell
you what has worked for us. Cooper is now 7/8 months old.
We picked up his water at 9:00 p.m. He went out at least once/twice in the
middle of the night (at very first it was thrice!). For a brief time he went
out at
I have to agree with MaryAnn on this. Restricting water may just cause a
urinary tract problem. A young puppy is a baby, and frequent potty needs
just goes with the territory.
My theory for my own dogs, and my students, is if the puppy immediately
relieves himself upon being let out, then he
And I'm thankful for being in love with a breed of dog that attracts
people Like Joye Neff to it! We have so many very special people in our
circle of Berner friends, I'm so happy I'm a part of it!
To everyone, a very healthy and happy holiday season - and hug those

Dear Larry Litia,
Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
It is so hard to see these grand old guys gals passing. I remember seeing
Kodiak out in the show ring as a youngster. : )
It was very hard for us to say good bye early this year to our Andi Oh'so,
they were 10 years 8 months old, and
No GDC evaluations are verifiable on line, and not all of the unaffected
GDC certifications are going to be in Berner-Garde. Most of them are,
but not all. But with enough motivation, you can contact GDC and hound
them for the actual certifications. You don't get the actual
certifications on the
Hi Pat,
You are correct. I did not make my statement clearly
enough. But the fact is, MOST GDC unaffected
evaluations end up in Berner-Garde without any action
by the owner of the dog. Affecteds are another
story.
The KinReports that I have ordered in the past, show
the dog's GDC number,

I've been back on my seriously walk the dogs very regularly routine (I've
also taken up the hideous self torture of jogging, but I do that sans
dogs--the last thing I need is to be gasping down the pavement with a dog
who spots a deer or something). I'm not sure exactly how far my walk is,
Housetraining is a combination of puppy and people training, and in our
household I expect it to take about a week. The secret is to watch the puppy
at all times and never allow accidents. Because I know housetraining can be
accomplished quickly, I devote myself to the task for the week or so, and
Terri,
Those wreaths candles are lovely! Do you think they would mind sending a

Final update on Lilly's histiocytoma
When Lilly had the mass on her head, we took her to our usual vet... he said
he found histiocytes and mast cells from a scape he did of the lump. He
said it was a histiocytoma and it would probabaly go away. After
researching histiocytomas and the

After reading Kathy, Jessica's and Eileen's posts my question is -- when do
you worry about a lump? Hugo (8 year-old neutered male) has many lumps
which the vet says are fatty deposits. One that is particularly large is
about the size of a lemon cut in half lengthwise. Two different vets have
