well, even though I don't have a real say in all of this, I agree with you,
a phone is a phone while tablets are obviously down to the basics computers
those basics are in a hand held package, yes but a iPhone still is unable to

I used the second edition of the Tandy radio shack pocket computer, its
capabilities were less than a tablet or pad of today but it had a processor,
a math co processor, and memory and ran actual programs even if it had a
single line of simple text readout.

I know there will be some heat over such a choice, but that's the job I have
drawn. Besides there has been nothing written out so far.

We are planning on making an addendum to the existing guidelines possibly
adding tablet computers. The documentation has not started as of yet, just
giving you folks a heads up. Phones will still be off topic but I pads and
such devices will most likely be allowed.
Obviously we will let you know the final decision.

Hi Alan,
If we don't draw the line somewhere, this list will be nothing more than a
copy of the blind-tech list,
which was not my desire when I created this list in 2007.
At the time the list was started, the focus was laptops and desktop PCs and
their peripherals.
Now that the list belongs to Dave, he will always have the final say in any
decision
and the management team will follow his lead.
If you think about it, technically, most of todays electronics can be
considered computers of sorts,
but they are not within the scope of this list.
Cel phones may be used for many things these days, but they are still
phones.

Honestly we have yet to discuss the details in person so to speak, so far
only over email. This is Rick's brain child it just falls under my domain
since we changed over to Mailman six years ago.

Like I said and Rick has also stated we have to draw a line somewhere so
that is probably where the DMZ will land.
