I can't find any other way out. I can only find the ladder that goes down.
I've looked all over.
How should I go about finding the stairs and or a ladder that goes up to
the end of the cave?

Merchants lane outside general store. I got help and got my arm out of
the door and have a rag and stick and am facing a rabbid dog inside the
general store. Paraffin is on the shelf and I could make that stick into
a torch with burning embers from shop west of general store and perhaps
burn dog
in the djungle there is a tree

It is not a bug, it means you missed at least one monster or item on the
ground. It is also not crucial to the game: you can complete it just fine
missing a couple, as long as you have multiple of each color at the end. I
would suggest going back through each room and using the d command to
