I can't find any other way out. I can only find the ladder that goes down.
I've looked all over.
How should I go about finding the stairs and or a ladder that goes up to
the end of the cave?

Hello,
That cave is probably the first place in the game where exploration is
getting really serious. Everybody got lost for one hour or two there.
Personally I waste two hours, also because I went back regularly to the
city in a safe place to heal my manamons.
There will be more and more
Unfortunately, you are just going to have to explore. For whatever
reason, nothing in the way of better mapping tools has been added to
Manamon 2.

You cannot move the log-yet. You will find a tool that will help you do that.
Also, you cannot find all of the coins for the girl until you have
another tool that you will not receive for a long while yet.
