Hi,
We currently have Dish TV, as our satellite provider, but we've had nothing
but problems with it, since we got it, 15 months ago.
Prior to that, we had DIRECTV for about 3 years!
The one thing we like with Dish is that we only have to have one receiver,
and we have two sets! With DIRECTV,
Like Don S. said on the blind handyman show with Don Pat and Phil,
isn't it most of the time when the plumbing goes bad like the toilet

is your dish near trees? If so you have to have a clear view of the
southern sky. I have directv for 5 years and love it. There is so much you
can get with a dish that cable just doesn't come close. I had comcast but
there cable was so fuzzy i ripped all their stuff and replaced it with dish
If I may add my two cents. if it was not for Phil Par and all the
crew in Texas there would be no blind like me or blind handyman. it is

no, you can no longer purchase your own receiver, all receivers from DirecTV
and Dish Network are rented. I guess you might be able to find and old one
off eBay, but if that person didn't pay there bill, you will have to pay
that before you can get the receiver activated.
DirecTV does have a
Relax guys, Lenny is still getting his see legs so to speak as a moderator.
He's doing a good job but he hasn't been around as long as some of us is
all, and as such was simply concerned that it would lead to a host of off

No, the 5 dollars a month is for duplication of the programming. What kinds of

As I said, we do have Dish, but we're now looking at going back to DirecTv!

Michael,
Our remotes are always deprogramming themselves, going through batteries like
crazy, to the point that we can't even watch our second set, for days at a time.
They have come out several times and reprogrammed our remotes, very easy, but
it's not fair to us. They have replaced our

I did not realize that the gathering in Houston, celebrating the

www.independentliving.com Dale can probably get it into BlindMiceMart as
well.
We now offer you a means of locating 8 of those personal belongings that
constantly get lost - keys, eyeglasses, cell phone, TV remote, etc.
The one thing I've found across the board is you need to get a good
installer who knows how to install cabling properly. The installer
made a mess stapling the cable to our fence cause I did not want the
dish on my roof. Actually does anyone know what is the best type of
cable hanger one
Many of us on the list will be attending the gathering in Houston. Also an
episode of the Blind Handy Man show will be recorded there. How could that
possibly be off topic.

I vote for the truck mounted machines. It is very humid here, so
getting the carpet dry is always a concern. The last time I had mine
cleaned, it took about 4 hours for the carpet to be totally dry and
it looks great.

Of course it is. It doesn't have anything to do with satellites or things that

Dish had some remotes that were defaulty. If you had the DVR, the first remote
was fine but the second remote ate batteries like hell. They replaced 4 of
them before we finally got a good one. And just to let you know, if you change
back, direct TV is having trouble with the LNBF's now where
What kind of siding do you have? If it's vinyl siding find you some stiff wire
and make little hooks that will hang in the track on the bottom of the siding
and then have a little hook at the bottom that the wire will lay in.

The people that Dish contracts with for service work out here did a terrible
job.
We switched to Direct TV, which is serviced by a local company, and have had
a much better experience.

This is the time of year flies try especially hard to get into our house,

I'm not much use with a fly swatter anymore.
Anybody have any tricks for eliminating the nasty critters?

Aloha Tom,
Do you have any idea what is bringing the flies? Usually, there is a reason.

I have not heard of having to replace smoke alarms after 7-years, but have read
that carbon monoxide alarms do need to be replaced at that interval. I assume
that it is because some component decays, making the unit unreliable.

Try a trap consisting of a jar with a little water in the bottom. Mix in a
