This morning at 8:50am, I was driving on Salt Road in Groton when I saw a flock of shorebirds alight in the southernmost plowed field on the west side, and since I'd already dropped off my passenger, I stopped to count: 29 DUNLIN plus 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER--Dave NutterOn May 24, 2013, at 08:07 P
I stopped by Sodus Point this windy afternoon and found:
30 Common Terns on the pier
4 Caspian Terns usually on the pier but on the beach today
4 Ruddy Turnstones on the beach but they were on the pier earlier in the week
when it wasn't windy
1 American Pipit on the beach
4 Killdeer on the beach

FYI--to confirm a trajectory: Broome Co folks, on Bluewing list, reported more
than 8 Semi-palmated Sandpipers (and more with time) as well as 6 Dunlin and 4
Semi-palmated Plovers at the Tri-Cities airport this morning.

Friday afternoon was dark and rainy but lots of Dunlin, Semipalmated Plovers,
and other peeps around. The Glossy Ibis was in easy viewing at Benning Marsh
(directly across from the pull-out). It took off as an adult Eagle flew over,
but circled around and landed in the same area.

a surprising 25 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS in the second little pond along the
side of the piles.
