About 3:30 pm today (Sunday) I saw 3 Snow Buntings on the gravel road that runs
between the McConville Horse Barn & the Guterman lab greenhouses (parallel to
rt 366) on the eastern end of Cornell campus.
I don’t know where the other 97 snow buntings went.

That’s good news! I was driving around the fields in the area of Mecklenberg
and Reynoldsville today and only saw a Northern Harrier and an American
Kestrel. But no field birds, not even sparrows along side of the roads or in
the fields!

I also saw Snow Buntings today, my first this year - a flock of about 60 flying
over a cornstubble field on the south side of Perry City Rd east of Waterburg
Rd in Ulysses. They alit atop a large bare tree in the hedgerow on the far
side, and I got a good enough scope view to confirm my initial
I would not be surprised to find many field birds (buntings, larks, longspurs)
dispersing farther South in search of available food resources in more open
fields (or even seed feeders in the middle of the forest – John). In the recent
sleet-covered and heavy snowfall-covered areas, many previous

Now I know why they weren't at Mt. Pleasant yester
