I will lead another impromptu Cayuga Bird Club trip this coming Sunday. Meet at
the Lab of O at 8 am. We will be back at around 2 pm. I plan to look for all
the good winter birds. Beginning with gulls grebes on the lake, a snowy owl
(if anyone has not yet seen one), larks/longspurs/buntings in
Just before midday on Friday, I saw a large, powerful dark bird fly from the
south end of Cayuga Lake eastbound over Route 13. Eyes on the road, I
didn't get a great look, but I think it was a BALD EAGLE.
When I arrived at East Shore Park a couple of minutes later, the gulls were

I had 5 Bald Eagles at East Shore Park this afternoon. 1 Adult and 4 imm
all in view at the same time. A new high count for me on the lake.

I have had 3 Bald eagles here at Lansing Station rd today.
2 immature together this morning ~ 9:35 am
1 mature a few minutes ago (4:10).

There are no leaders in bird flocks.
All the gulls are hungry and will head to the compost in the morning, around
the time that the truck brings in the food from the dorms. Each gull gets food
as it can, and if they are satisfied, they often head back to the lake to loaf
instead of hanging
