As I drove down Stevenson Road at 8:15 this morning there were two
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS in the newly-plowed field SW of the compost
piles. Also there were at least 75 KILLDEER. An hour later the golden
plovers were not to be found.

I heard (but didn't see) a Red Crossbill flying over lower Sapsucker
Woods Road this morning.
There also was a single Caspian Tern flying north directly up Sapsucker
Woods Road, then veering off to the west on the upper part of the road, at
around 08:35. Was anyone watching from the Lab - did
There were 2 Caspian Terns, a low adult and a juvenile following behind at a
higher altitude. I was in the first staff parking lot as they flew by, west of
the Lab, heading north. They did not look at the pond

I've still got some here in Auburn. I suspect it's a young one. I see her on
my flowers and the feeders. I haven't seen any males in quite a while.

I met Laura Stenzler at the Lab of Ornithology and we birded the first part
of Wilson Trail from l:00 to 1:30. Other than the usual suspects seen, we
had a nice flock of warblers including Magnolia, Black-throated Green,
Tennessee, Wilson's, a female Redstart, and a singing Common Yellow-throat.
Shorebirding is as good as ever at Knox-Marsellus at Montezuma, viewing
from Towpath Road right now. Highlights are 4 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS
running around together on the mud, 23 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, Red-necked
and Wilson's phalaropes, Ruddy Turnstone, and 16 other species of
shorebirds.
Saw my last hummer here in Union Springs on 21 Aug..
The local OSPREY was last seen that day also.
About a doz. or so tree barn SWALLOWS are
swooping over the woods up by the garden.

Interesting following the comments on sightings and missing RT Hummingbirds.
Still have our female and juvenile here in Big Flats. No males. Actually, we
are seeing more activity than during the first half of the summer.
I have a theory on why they sometimes seem to disappear in summer, only

Hey all,
Just a quick note to mention my best bird from an otherwise quiet lakewatch
at Myers Point this morning was a months-early COMMON GOLDENEYE which flew
by distantly heading north up the west side of the lake, then back south
again a little closer (presumably the same bird) half an hour
At least three Ruby throats feeding here at dusk.

My mistake, the date is Friday the 21st. not Thursday the 20th. Must
learn to read a calendar one of these days.
BTW according to the Hawk Mtn. web site it should be pretty good for
hawks then.

that there were several hundred thousand birds swirling, swarming and streaking
over and through the wetlands and trees for
