Hi,
In our backyard stands a large black walnut tree, which has become the focus
of a squirrel nut-gathering frenzy. This morning 3 Red Squirrels and 3 Gray
Squirrels were zipping up and down collecting nuts, then dashing into our
shed or down a squirrel trail to the hedgerow, and back again
inspection showed it staring at a GRAY SQUIRREL in a nearly pignut

squirrel was in the central area of the large tree where there were 3 main
trunks and many large branches going off. It stayed in this area, I think,

Great film. Clearly the squirrel is teasing the young hawks. Taking a real
chance, however. A squirrel was taken off the wires behind my house a week ago.

Hi all,
I just saw a chipmunk running around and being chased by the squirrel in my
yard. So hawk food is available now in the form of chipmunk! I also heard a
Cardinal singing "Kiddo Kiddo Kiddo" . I think it has started thing of kids
now!.

Banded one male this morning; was our first warbler up here. Yesterday we had a
nice
low flyover by an Osprey and the local Phoebes spent the day nest building. We
have
a fairly large number of Purple Finch and large Goldfinch flock decimating the
sunflower seed.

The female Bald Eagle, central character of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens Eagle
Cam,
was struck and killed by a US Air flight yesterday. There's some encouragement
as
the male began bringing fish to the three eyases in the nest. Here's the story:

Due to a scheduling conflict, Kevin's crow program will be at the Montour Falls
library tomorow. That building is next door (east) of the former location.
Starts at
1 PM. For those coming from Ithaca, be sure to visit the falls to the west of
Main
St.

Just banded here! First seen or heard since 2003/04; last banded were in
1993/94.
We've had all the hybrids over the years but very few pure GWWA! This one a
handsome
male. Photos later.
Baltimore Oriole, Catbird, Yellowthroats here in droves this morning;
Nashville's
joining the dawn chorus.
When crows get to chatting I always thought "Parliament of Cows" was more
descriptive and it applies to Barred Owls also. There's a list of these
alternate
flock names somewhere that I'll try to find and post.

Song Sparrows made it back here on the 13th. A single bird and it was banded!
That's
always great to see but we doubled down when an adult male redwing joined it
-he was
also wearing a band.
Yesterday we had our first TV up here.

We had a report of a RTHA with jesses seen at the intersection of Stillwell and
Sirrine Rds yesterday. This is a TBurg section of eastern Schuyler Cty near the
FLNF. We don't know of any falconers based operating in the area.
