Joann and I took a ride though Montezuma this afternoon and had a great time.
The south end of the visitor center was busy. We hadn’t heard of the
Hudsonian Godwit in a couple days so were very happy to find it along the sw
edge. There were good numbers of both Yellowlegs and Pectoral

All, I had a change of plans and am not going to the NJ coast for shorebirds. So I decided to try Montezuma again for shorebirds
All,
Took a day trip to Montezuma and vicinity.
Started at Visitor's Center and the place was
pretty much void of shorebirds. Just a small
grouping of about 18 LEAST SANDPIPERS.
There could have been more as many were hidden in
the grass by the edge of the swamp.
I heard a SORA with its calls
The EURASIAN WIGEON was still in Knox-Marsellus this afternoon, towards the
south side of the marsh viewed from East Road. We found another male

Diane, Ken, and I took part in the Montezuma waterfowl count this morning. Our
territory was Knox-Marsellus and Puddlers Marsh. Both areas were entirely
ice-free and harbored a large number of birds. Several thousand Snow Geese took
off from K-M as we arrived and flew north into the Mucklands.
Today I took two visiting scholars, one from Lebanon and one from China to
Montezuma, and we saw the following:
MUDLOCK
2 Bald Eagles (near the nest)

Green-winged Teal (many)
Canada Geese (someone on staff counted 14,600 the other day!)

Had the day off so went to Montezuma with my friend Dan Watkins.
We started at the visitor's center and it was pretty active. Decent numbers
of shorebirds that were close enough for good looks.
There were at least 50 KILLDEER, 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER juveniles, 1 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS and 3 LESSER

I noticed was a grayish glump in front(west edge) of Puddler's marsh which
turned out to be a tight flock of 8 Sandhill Cranes which all appeared to be
adults. This in addition to the family below starts out the late
Had a chance to stop by Montezuma for a few hours on the way back from
Rochester around midday with my girl friend. Unfortunately, this is the
worst time for scoping because of heat shimmer. Wildlife drive has dried
out a lot. We were able to pick out

Sorry for the late reply. I was with Tim yesterday and we had all the birds

Hi all,
As I had a transportation today, I decided to take a long drive to MNWR.
On the way I stopped at Myers nothing of interest to report. At Aurora, I saw
an adult Bald Eagle, which soared for sometime parallel to my car. Again at
Mud Lock I saw two adult Bald Eagles sitting on a dead
Went up to Montezuma with birding friend Dan Watkins.
Visitor's center was quiet except there was one injured
SNOW GOOSE blue form. It is quite dry there now so no shorebirds of note.
Did not hear the CERULEAN WARBLER at visitor's center today.
At Larue's, we had 2 different WHITE-RUMPED
Went with Melissa Penta to Montezuma and Vicinity Today.
Started at Knox-Marcellus this morning from Towpath Road.
Overcast skies, light breeze and pleasant temperatures
made for great viewing. Very little heat shimmer. Spent

Went to Towpath Road this morning with my friend Dan Watkins and 10 year old son
Thomas. Knox-Marcellus Marsh continues to have a nice concentration of
shorebirds.
We found nothing unusual but nevertheless definitively worth the trip.
There were many peeps fairly close to the road which was a
Took a trip to Montezuma today with birding friend Stephen Hill.
It was an awesome March day...totaled 63 species which is pretty
good, but not unexpected given the exceptional warmth.
Some select photos from the trip can be found here:
Hi all,
I and several others from the Birding Club at Cornell (Julia Gillis, Brendan
Fogarty, Graham Montgomery, Teresa Pegan, and Ben Barkley) birded Montezuma
for while today. Our highlights include the Greater White-fronted Goose at
the Visitor Center in the large flock of Canadas along with
Scott Haber, Nick Sly, and I birded Montezuma this evening. The main pool
had a large number of waterfowl, mostly American Wigeon and Northern Pintail
but with a mix of Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler,
Gadwall, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Greater Scaup, Redhead, and
Ann Mitchell and I spent the morning at the refuge and beyond,
watching a surprising variety of shorebirds and other birds of interest.
A brief stop at Myers at 7:30 yielded 5 Killdeer (no other
shorebirds), 1 Black-backed, 6 Herring, numerous Ring-billed Gulls,
and two each of

Montezuma was hopping today. The annual NYSOA meeting was held at the
MAC in Savannah, with a number of top birders leading field trips in
the area all morning. Those of us in the business meeting got a call
just before noon that a GRAY KINGBIRD had been seen just east of
Savannah.
