Re: [cayugabirds-l] Red Wings

2021-03-07 Thread Htva Waxwing
This morning had my FOY Red-winged at the feeder. Kind of bizarre seeing
Red-winged at one feeder and 3 Redpolls at the other at the same time. Summer
meets Winter.

A single FOY Grackle and a single FOY Red-winged Blackbird at my feeders too,
here outside of Mecklenberg. More to come, I’m sure. And probably very soon!

[cayugabirds-l] Red Wings

2011-02-28 Thread Carol Keeler
It must be spring, if for only a day. I counted 7 robins taking
advantage of spots of green lawn this morning. Then, I spotted 6 red-
wing blackbirds mixed in with some starlings. Maybe, the strong south
winds have brought them northward.

The red wings are my left-over seed clean-up crew.

I have an old robin's nest in the crotch of my weeping beech out
front. A red-bellied woodpecker was standing next to it-seemingly to
examine it ( though they don't use such nests). One of the robins
quickly drove the woodpecker off the nest. I've had robins reuse nests
before such as one made over an outdoor light. Maybe this was the
owner of the nest and wasn't taking any chances with an intruder.

I've also heard a tufted titmouse singing quite often over the last
two weeks.

Hope I get some other interesting birds today!

[cayugabirds-l] Red-wings

2010-03-11 Thread Kathy Strickland

Red-winged Blackbird in mass in the trees across the road and in my backyard
about 4:30 today. Truly a spring sound and sight! Was going to hang out laundry
tomorrow tomorrow but I guess I'll have to rethink that.

Also my first Killdeer today (heard on Lockwood Rd, car window down--a real
sign of spring!), Common Grackle flyover in Aurora yesterday, and 4 TVs over
Auburn yesterday as well.
