Hi Robert,
Try logging into your ftp site with ws_ftp and deleting files using ws_ftp.
I had done
use dir /X to get the 8.3 folder name, then RD /S and path\8.3 folder
name.
So, it would look something like: rd /s oOoOoO~1

Rob,
What sort of system? *nix, Windoze, what?
I know in *nix you should be able to use a wild card in your rmdir command:
# rmdir oOoOo*
I'm not 100% sure, but you might be able to do the same thing from
within the command prompt on Windoze.
HTH,
Chris

Hello guys,
Thanks for the feedback, I should probably have mentioned I'm on windows, I
guess that's why I can't get 'rm' working, that's a bash command right?
Chris with your suggestion when looking at the folder like
I think to be honest that a reformat is in order, if it's
been compromised then it's the only safe way to ensure any
malware etc has been removed.
It doesn't sound like there was a compromise; the original poster enabled
anonymous FTP, and people used it. Just as long as the original poster
You might want to know if there are any processes currently using that
folder. Perhaps a trojan was installed.

You can get bash (and a ton of other GNU utils) for Win32.

Could it simply be a permissions issue? Have you asked your hosting company
to delete the folders for you?

I think that depends on where the root folder for anon ftp is located.
If anon ftp gives you access to the entire C: drive, they could have
dropped an .exe into a startup folder.

By default, the root FTP folder for IIS is c:\inetpub\ftproot.

rm -rf *images
Chris with your suggestion when looking at the folder like
that it still seems to list the full folder name, like this:
11/07/2007 09:11DIR .
11/07/2007 09:11DIR ..
27/06/2007 21:09DIR oOoOoOoimagesoOoOoOo

This might be crazy...
but can't you do a cfdirectory action=list name=my_name filter=*. and
then take the query set and do a cfdirectory action=delete
this way you have the actual name of the directory without trying to look at
it and figure out what it is on your own.
Hello Guys,
I suppose it comes down to what you want to go ahead and
trust from this point forward. I remember one of our servers
had this around 6 or 7 years ago - to be safe we reformatted.
If you are willing to trust this machine after theis then

Yeah, I am not saying it is a risk now, I would just not like
the fact it has been abused :-p
If you'd been running a mail server as an open relay, would you feel
compelled to reformat that as well? Or just turn off the relay and delete
the mail folders? After all, lots of virus-laden mail
Hi Robert,
Try logging into your ftp site with ws_ftp and deleting files using ws_ftp. I
had done this many years back with unix system that had garbage file names.
Good luck.
