The dream system IIci + Turbo 040 will, IIRC, not run OS6 because the

Is it true that the Turbo 040 can run in an SE/30 without the adapter
if you move the floppy? I thought I read somewhere that if you
attempt to just plug it in directly without the adapter, it could
damage the motherboard. If there's no need for the adapter, I would
be more open to getting one

No you can't run a Turbo 040 in an SE/30 without the adapter.
If you're lucky it will just turn off the power supply.
If you're not lucky it will fry your motherboard and Turbo 040.
