Since I installed this to GET a internet link I can't go and look on a 
web page to get the documentation
If I were using a CD and not just trying to use this instead of the kernel
patch version of PPPoE, I would have been out of luck when it didn't work.
This is completely unacceptable for a debian quality package

I got these lines, with no reference as to what the config file options really 
meant, which ones were needed, which ones just happened to work for sympatico.

Not to mention the fact that you say to edit /etc/init.d/network which is
no longer supported. And that the pppd script doesn't even use 
start-stop-daemon
