Bug#523990: Fix an error in the rewritten templates

2009-05-03 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Christian Perrier (bubu...@debian.org):
The attached patch should replace the one sent originally. A double
question mark was indeed left in the rewritten debconf
 templates. Sorry for the trouble.

Another error was found. One of the questions had many trailing
spaces.

Please use the attached patch for templates.

Please note that ALL translations that were sent are fuzzied by this
change.

I will send fixed PO files alongs with the final patch that will be
sent at the end of the call for translations step.

Ok, it wasn't my imagination, it showed up again today (with gdm).

Bug#526732: libpango1.0-0: pango forces use of bold font in gnome-terminal

2009-05-03 Thread Mike Simons
Package: libpango1.0-0
Version: 1.24.0-3+b1
Severity: normal

After a recent restart of gnome-terminal the wrong font was being used.
The new font is some bold font. The gnome-terminal UI shows the correct
font name and the font looks correct in the preview area but attempts
to make configuration changes had no effect on open real terminals.

I use a small fixed-width font[1] in gnome-terminal and had made no
preference changes to the terminal or font config changes for months.

I found another machine were the my font preference was working correctly.
I created a new user, confirmed the font was working. Did a full update
to testing and confirmed the problem appeared in the new user account.

Then using snapshot.debian.org I backed out/reapplied packages one at
a time until I found that just libpango1.0 introduced this failure.

  this package works: libpango1.0-0=1.22.4-2
  this package fails: libpango1.0-0=1.24.0-3+b1

1: The font I use is Neep Alt size 10 from xfonts-jmk package

Test case:

It's best if you use a different user account to test this, to isolate
this test from your real user preferences.

- apt-get install libpango1.0-0=1.22.4-2
- apt-get install xfonts-jmk
- enable bitmap fonts [2]
- run a new
  gnome-terminal --disable-factory
- select Neep Alt size 10 from profile preferences
- run ls / man ... observe font ... take a screen shot ;)
- close down all gnome-terminals

- apt-get install libpango1.0-0=1.24.0-3+b1
- run another new
  gnome-terminal --disable-factory

expected results : fonts are unchanged

actual results : second window uses bold fonts for all text

2: to enable bitmap fonts...
there are at least two options to enable bitmap fonts.

- per user:

cat ~/.fonts.conf
===
?xml version=1.0?
!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM fonts.dtd
fontconfig
!-- Accept bitmap fonts --
 selectfont
  acceptfont
   pattern
 patelt name=scalableboolfalse/bool/patelt
   /pattern
  /acceptfont
 /selectfont
/fontconfig
===

- system wide:
===
rm /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps.conf
ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/
===

Bug#504495: [syslinux] Domain-specific HLT when idle

2009-05-03 Thread Geert Stappers

 H. Peter Anvin wrote:
 Peter Iannucci wrote:

 Hello hpa,

We are developing a Xen-based virtualization service, and we are trying
to reduce excessive CPU utilization at isolinux boot prompts. When
users boot up a virtual machine on an isolinux boot CD, the CPU starts
spinning at 100%. These machines frequently get left in this state for
days or weeks, degrading the service for everyone else.

You replied to the work-around discussed in the earlier thread at

 http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2005-June/005291.html

 Breaks serial console.
 -hpa

In our case, the serial console is not an issue. We would like to
submit a patch to isolinux which HLTs on getchar if isolinux is not
running with the serial console option. Do you think this is the right
solution to this problem? Can we work with you to resolve this?

It would *probably* be okay to do when serial console is not enabled,
but it seems a bit crude... and also it's somewhat confusing that one
should enable serial console and get drastically different behavior.

What is much more confusing to me is why do you have VMs left like this
 for days or weeks?

It is about wasted resources.
That used to be a non-issue, but now on virtualisation we have to pay ...

  -hpa

One improvement might be enabling interrupts for the serial port. On
line 1277 of 2.6.29/drivers/serial/8250.c, this is accomplished with

 serial_outp(up, UART_IER, 0x0f);

where the UART Interrupt Enable Register is defined on line 23 of
include/linux/serial_reg.h, and serial_outp is responsible for
special-casing unusual devices. The protocol for enabling interrupts
via this register is common to all standard PC serial ports (and can
easily be scraped from 8250.c for exceptions as desired).

On scanning through syslinux/core/parseconfig.inc, it looks like the
infrastructure for enabling serial IRQ's is already present, but is not
being used. Once these interrupts are enabled, the HLT should take care
 of both cases fine.

Proposal:

Introduce a configuration keyword named like 'halt_on_idle'.

'halt_on_idle' is optional
and when set is HLT used in the idle loop that waits for a key stroke.

By way of explanation, when our users boot a VM with a live CD and
reboot from within the guest, the domain still has the CD still
attached. This leaves the machine spinning at the boot prompt. Users
forget and leave their machines in this state frequently enough that it
has become a problem. Similarly, users occasionally create a new VM and
specify a first-time boot CD, but never log in to complete the install.
It only takes a few VMs using 100% of a CPU to degrade the performance
 of a host.

Probably should 'halt_on_idle' be default
and is a 'no_halt_on_idle' or a 'active_poll' needed.

'active_poll' has to be mentioned in de section 'serial port' of the docs.

 -Peter Iannucci

Bug#526693: [pkg-wpa-devel] Bug#526693: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s (wpa_supplicant + jfs)

2009-05-03 Thread Reinhard Tartler
legolas558 legolas...@email.it writes:

 Package: wpasupplicant
 Version: 0.6.9-2

I get often freezes during shutdown; collecting many clues (stale files
when booting after incorrectly terminated shutdown, screen output etc) I
have been able to verify that this is what happens:

 1) unmounting of my root JFS partition fails, in particular my /etc/mtab
 file is not unlinked correctly
 2) some kernel error dump is shown on screen for less than a second
 3) the computer is shutdown anyway, without leaving track of the error
(logger is anyway gone when this happens, and there is too little time
 to read on screen)

 I know that I should plug a serial connection to get the full output;
however today it did not shutdown totally and kept hanging forever
spitting out a specific error dump every 61s. I have wrote down these
 details:

 ---
BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s!
 wpa_supplicant Tainted GD(2.6.28-681 #1) Pro 7000X

This does only say that Linux couldn't schedule the wpasupplicant
process for more than 61s. This is not an sufficiant indication that the
wpa_supplicant process is at fault here.

TBH, I think this is more an user configuration or hardware
problem. Most probably your wifi driver got stuck for some reason. If
you agree, please close this bug or reassign to package containing the
wifi driver you are using.

Bug#526735: mplayer: 'dumpstream' should be switchable (on/off) while a stream is being played

2009-05-03 Thread Axel K. Stammler
Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc2-17+lenny3
Severity: wishlist

As with a good old tape recorder, I'd like to listen to Internet radio and
press 'record'
and 'stop'. Configuration should include:
- a buffer of configurable length so that if 'record' is pressed, the previous
10 seconds
or so are included in the recording
- the name of the file dumped should be configurable to contain the stream
designation and
the start and end time of the recording as well as possible ICY tags

BTW, I am using a script to listen to streams; I enclose it if anyone is
interested:
- the URL is first searched until a stream URL is found (using 'wget')
- some streams are interrupted from time to time; the script then restarts the
player
  example:
http://radio3.cbc.ca/nmcradio/webradio.m3u
= http://shoutcast1.cbcradio3.com/
ICY Info: StreamTitle='Jerry Leger - Warning
Sirens';StreamUrl='http://www.cbcradio3.com/';
(the latter is adapted to whatever is playing)
- the window title reflects what's going on
- audible signals mark the script's progress while looking for the correct URL
and while
restarting the player (so you know what's happening without looking at the
screen)

Bug#526736: mplayer: The duration of a file should be included in the output

2009-05-03 Thread Axel K. Stammler
Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc2-17+lenny3
Severity: wishlist

I use the following command to probe media files:

MPLAYER_VERBOSE=-6 mplayer -endpos 0 -msglevel
demux=4:header=-1:cplayer=4:decaudio=5:decvideo=5:all=-1 $FILENAME

This quickly gives an amazing amount of information --- but not the length of
the
recording contained in the file. How can I get this information without playing
the file
and looking at the on-screen display (OSD)?

'active_poll' has to be mentioned in de section 'serial port' of the docs.

I really don't like this. Chicken flags are hopeless; one way the
feature doesn't get used, the other way it still has all the downsides.

That doesn't mean that there isn't a possibility of going to a low-power
mode after a timeout or something like that.

This isn't just a virtualization issue, either; modern hardware can
easily burn *massively* more power without idle support. However, doing
it at the cost of reliability simply isn't an option...

 Hi,

Since version 2.26, I cannot quit evolution. This does happen most of the time
(sorry, I haven't been able to find a typical case to explain when this
 happens).

I use evolution with IMAP, in case that can help.
[...]

After testing further, it seems the virtual search folders are the cause
of this issue.
I have removed my custom folders and everything works perfectly now.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#526737: md: RAID 1 check makes kernel almost panic

2009-05-03 Thread Julien Danjou
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.29-3
Severity: critical

Today was the normal crondate for mdadm to run a check on my 2 raid 1
devices.
Problem, when I woke up this morning I found very bad stuff on my
terminals.

The check was stuck at 2% according to /proc/mdstat. I tried to run it
again, but that caused the second backtrace you can see below.

Now, I cannot even check the RAID status since cat /proc/mdstat hangs.

Bug#526738: gratuitous use of subprocesses

What is it doing? That's two subprocesses (shell+sed) used for
absolutely zero purpose, as far as I can tell.

bpython is a curses interface to the Python interpreter, and has the
 following features:
 .
   * In-line syntax highlighting.
   * Readline-like autocomplete with suggestions displayed as you type
   * Expected parameter list for any Python function. Uses pydoc to attempt to
 divine params for C functions.
   * Rewind function to pop the last line of code from memory and re-evaluate.
Note: this is only really useful when laying out classes and functions,
since a true undo function is impossible, so be careful when using this.

 for copying, etc.

 The following code:

 r = read(fd,buf-buffer,buf-size);
 }

Works as expected (giving up the read after the timeout if there is no data)
 if
fd is an ipv6 socket, but does a blocking read if fd is an ipv4 socked.

If required, i can provide the full source code.

Yes, please provide a simple testcase showing this behaviour. Without
context, it is difficult to see if the code is correct or not.

Bug#526741: creates faulty terminal instructions

2009-05-03 Thread martin f krafft
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20090317-1
Severity: important
File: /etc/grub.d/00_header
Tags: patch

If any non-default (e.g. serial) terminal is chosen, grub.d/00_header since
(but not including) lenny writes to grub.cfg something similar to the
following:

  serial --unit=0 --speed=115200
if terminal_output serial ; then true ; else
# For backward compatibility with versions of terminal.mod that don't
# understand terminal_output
terminal serial
  fi

This causes correct terminal output, but since terminal_input is not
called, I cannot actually interact with grub.

The cause for this seems to be the split of $GRUB_TERMINAL into
$GRUB_TERMINAL_INPUT and $GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT without
backwards-compatibility in place.

This patch is one way to solve it; there are others, but I thought
this was transparent/explicit enough. In particular, I chose not to
use ${GRUB_TERMINAL_INPUT:=${GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT}} because I find
that a bit obfuscated:

---8---8---
--- /etc/grub.d/00_header 2009-05-03 09:54:08.0 +0200

   serial:* | *:serial)
 if ! test -e ${grub_prefix}/serial.mod ; then
---8---8---

I found it quite confusing that 00_header gets
$GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT (but not $GRUB_TERMINAL), even though
$GRUB_TERMINAL is set in /etc/default/grub.

Anyway, setting $GRUB_TERMINAL_INPUT to $GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT if it
is undefined makes sense to me.

Bug#526615: fails to install to RAID across virtual (kvm/virtio) disks

clone 526615 -1
retitle -1 improved error message if grub cannot be embedded
severity -1 wishlist
retitle 526615 should treat unknown block devices as plain block devices
severity 526615 wishlist
thanks

also sprach martin f krafft madd...@debian.org [2009.05.02.1107 +0200]:
However, trying to install to a system with RAID1 across two virtual
disks, I run into two errors, depending on which approach I take:

Those two errors are separate issues, thus the clone. Let's pull
them apart:

   mdadm-test:/boot/grub# grub-install /dev/md0
   grub-setup: error: Unknown device number: 254, 0

This is the current bug #526615: grub tries to be smart and analyses
/dev/md0 to find the component devices, but then does not know how
to handle device major number 254 (kernel reserved for
local/experimental), runs into the corner and puts on the stubborn
face.

Instead, I think it would make sense if grub would simply treat the
block device as a plain block device and resist trying to be smart
about it.

For safety, maybe this could be done with a flag,
--unknown-as-block, or more explicit e.g. grub-setup
--block-devices=/dev/vda,/dev/vdb.

I think this would also address #525879.

Now, for the second issue:

   mdadm-test:/boot/grub# grub-install '(hd0)'
grub-setup: error: Core image is too big for embedding, but this is
 required when
the root device is on a RAID array or LVM volume.

The problem here was found by Robert Millan, who spotted that
I didn't have partitions and thus deprived grub2 of the 32k it has
to embed itself.

It works when I use /dev/vda directly, because Grub then uses
blocklists (ugh!), but that does not work for RAID.

I converted the device into a partitioned device and put the RAID1
onto /dev/vd[ab]1 and it worked.

Maybe the error message could be a litte more explicit and mention
the need for a partition table?

While on the topic of messages, maybe Grub could print a fat warning
when it falls back to using blocklists?

I also found it confusing that this message comes from grub-setup,
while I used a core.img file that didn't include any references to
raid.

What is it doing? That's two subprocesses (shell+sed) used for
absolutely zero purpose, as far as I can tell.

It's for these configure options

I don't think it's that useful to remove that feature. Maybe some people
actually want to use it.
I doubt grub2 gets used on old 486 pcs or like that which are so slow that it
maybe matters.

Bug#526746: prosper: overlays stopped working properly after upgrade to Lenny

2009-05-03 Thread Anton Rebhan
Package: prosper
Version: 1.00.4+cvs.2007.05.01-4
Severity: important

After upgrading from etch/tetex to lenny/texlive, some overlay commands
don't work as they should. For example, putting
an \onlySlide{p}{mat} command displays mat but kills
all the subsequent material on the page, as the modified Example.tex
below shows. Likewise, \fromSlide etc. is broken.

(I increased severity to important, because this bug potentially breaks
existing prosper presentations badly.)

Bug#523750: autoconf false error

2009-05-03 Thread Amos Jeffries

I know that:

 - autoconf, automake, libtool, lidltdl-dev are the latest Debian
unstable versions available.

 - local autoconf macros have all been bootstrapped to regenerated from
the system m4's

 - and the lib/libltdl directory, set via
AC_LIBLTDL_CONVENIENCE(lib/libLtdl), has been bootstrapped/libtoolized
from libltdl-dev immediately after.

If they are not properly updated I think its an omission in the packages.

Amos

PS. is there anything we can do to get rid of that bad email address I
accidentally submitted from? It's likely to cause problems if much more
email arrives there.

Bug#526749: passwd: Infinite loop when reaching 60000 users

2009-05-03 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Package: passwd
Version: 1:4.1.1-6
Severity: normal

As far as I can see, when looking for the next available user id, useradd does:
- take max user id + 1
- if id 6 then start from 1000 and search for gaps
- repeat

So if all user ids from 1000 to 6 are taken, useradd is in an infinite loop.
Admittedly not a common case, but I guess it needs to return an error in that
case.

Bug#526750: wrong expansion to top_build_prefix

2009-05-03 Thread Amos Jeffries

Package: libtool
Version: 2.2.6

(not sure if this is libtool or libltdl-dev first bug)

We are experiencing libtool errors due to ltdl.m4 macros containing this:

# _LT_BUILD_PREFIX
#
# If Autoconf is new enough, expand to `${top_build_prefix}', otherwise
# to `${top_builddir}/'.
m4_define([_LT_BUILD_PREFIX],
[m4_ifdef([AC_AUTOCONF_VERSION],
   [m4_if(m4_version_compare(m4_defn([AC_AUTOCONF_VERSION]), [2.62]),
  [-1], [m4_ifdef([_AC_HAVE_TOP_BUILD_PREFIX],
  [${top_build_prefix}],
  [${top_builddir}/])],
  [${top_build_prefix}])],
   [${top_builddir}/])[]dnl
])

When built on Debian or Ubuntu with autoconf 2.63:
 ${top_build_prefix} equates to empty
${top_builddir} equates to the path needed
_AC_HAVE_TOP_BUILD_PREFIX is not defined as far as I can tell.

yet ltdl attempts to expand to $top_build_prefix. This leads to path
errors at link time when building out-of-tree.

This does not match the version listed below.

Today was the normal crondate for mdadm to run a check on my 2 raid 1

Problem, when I woke up this morning I found very bad stuff on my
 terminals.

The check was stuck at 2% according to /proc/mdstat. I tried to run it
again, but that caused the second backtrace you can see below.

Looks like this is fixed in 303a0e11d0ee136ad8f53f747f3c377daece763b and
also in 2.6.29.2.

Now, I cannot even check the RAID status since cat /proc/mdstat hangs.

 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0444, st_size=0, ...}) = 0

The MD subsystem is dead at this time, so such fallouts are likely.

Sounds like memory corruption or another hardware issue to me. Not
a bug, I've sync'd many dozens of arrays, levels 1,5,6,10, with
 2.6.26 and 2.6.29, with mdadm 2.6.[789] and 3.0, and I've never seen

It is a valid bug and fixed with the next upload.

Bug#526519: cmake immediately hangs if run in i386 chroot on amd64 host

If i use cmake in an i386 chroot on an amd64 machine, it just prints Linux
and hangs. The same happens inside an i386 pbuilder environment on an amd64
machine (therefore I think this problem is not caused by a dirty chroot).

 How to reproduce:
 - create i386 chroot on amd64 machine
 - touch CMakeLists.txt
 - cmake .

Do you run it under linux32 so that the uname is changed ?

Could you build libvirt with lxc support and verify that I works? I'd be
happy to enable it then. Just change the --without-lxc to --with-lxc in
debian/rules.

It would also be kind of nice if OpenVZ containers were supported, since
I noticed them on the way past to checking when lxc came in; I don't currently
use them, but they will be available again at some point.
We're building with --with-openvz already.

Bug#526761: whois includes completely unrelated util named mkpasswd

2009-05-03 Thread Michael Tokarev
Package: whois
Version: 4.7.30

Package `whois' is just a single utility, whois, together
with the manpages, message files and other support stuff.

But for some strange reason it also includes an unrelated
utility named `mkpasswd' (with manpage too), which is useful
by its own. It probably should be a part of passwd package,
or debianutils, or something like that, but definitely not
this `whois' one... ;)

Bug#526749: passwd: Infinite loop when reaching 60000 users

2009-05-03 Thread Nicolas François

As far as I can see, when looking for the next available user id, useradd

So if all user ids from 1000 to 6 are taken, useradd is in an infinite
 loop.
Admittedly not a common case, but I guess it needs to return an error in that
 case.

I don't think there is any infinite loop.

I had some reports about being very slow with LDAP systems under some
conditions (a bug in the ldap nss was mentioned at that time).

Here is the code with the loops in useradd (in libmisc/find_new_ids.c):

setpwent ();
pw_rewind ();
while (   ((pwd = getpwent ()) != NULL)
   || ((pwd = pw_next ()) != NULL)) {
if ((pwd-pw_uid = user_id)  (pwd-pw_uid = uid_max)) {
user_id = pwd-pw_uid + 1;
}
}

At some time, getpwent will return NULL. Unfortunately, the above
mentioned LDAP bug caused getpwent to loop back to the beginning.
So there could be (LDAP users) * (local users) at most loops here.

Without this bug, it is only (LDAP users) + (local users).

Then, there is another loop, which starts from uid_min up to at most
uid_max.

for (user_id = uid_min; user_id  uid_max; user_id++) {
/* local, no need for xgetpwuid */
if (   (getpwuid (user_id) == NULL)
 (pw_locate_uid (user_id) == NULL)) {
break;
}
}

So the two loops are finite.

What were the symptoms you experienced?

Best Regards,

Bug#522157: RFS: lesstif2 (updated package)

2009-05-03 Thread Paul Gevers
This is a big package with a high popcon count, do you have the time
for such a large task? On your own? Is there any upstream activity?

I have the intention to try. And of course all help is appreciated, but
I would say that any improvement over inactivity is good. I really think
this cleaning up could solve a lot of bugs and annoyance to users. And,
no, there is hardly upstream activity. The last couple of years only
some rare patches got applied.

The PTS claims 85 lintian errors and warnings, so that is a
considerable advance. The spelling error appears trivial and the
autotools ones are new, there was an announcement about those on
debian-devel regarding problems with new architectures (and, for that
matter cross-building) when these files are so out of date. autoreconf
will sort those out - you could try it in debian/rules but be aware
that updating such an old package could cause new bugs so it might be
best to do the entire refresh thing upstream.

Those aren't particularly suitable library names, so you may want to
use a lintian override for now and use a more sensible name in a future
upstream release - again, a large step for a package of this size.

Except for an override for the package-name-doesnt-match-sonames (with
reference to the above statement) the package is now appears completely
lintian clean:
(pbuild17332) etna lesstif2-0.95.0 # lintian --allow-root -I -E
--pedantic ../*.changes
N: 1 tag overridden (1 warning)
(pbuild17332) etna lesstif2-0.95.0 # lintian --allow-root -I -E
--pedantic ../*.deb
N: 1 tag overridden (1 warning)

Michael Biebl wrote:
A less invasive approach is, to build-depend on autotools-dev and copy
config.(guess, sub) from there. If you backup the exisisting files, you
can easily copy them back on clean to return to a pristine state.

I fixed the outdated-autotools-helper-file by using the approach
proposed by Mickael. (No need to back them up, just removing them on clean).

There needs to be a quick, easy way of testing the package - is there a
script or internal program that can be run or a simple way of writing a
test program? What needs to be done to run stuff in the test/
directory? It doesn't use 'make check' (which appears to do nothing
 in particular).

Running the tests in the package can be done by running using
--enable-build-tests on configure time. Then in the test/Xm or
test/Xm-2.1 dir running the testall command. Apparently, a lot of these
test have failed for a long time (nobody cared?). To compare, I did the
tests (except for printing, where I needed a patch to build anyway) for
a build of lesstif2-0.95-2.1 lesstif2-0.95-2.1ubuntu1 and
lesstif2-0.95-2.3. The results:
2.1: 350 failed out of 609
2.1ubuntu1: 350 failed out of 609 (although two test results swapped
with 2.1)
2.3 351 failed out of 609

I will look into this further, but still, this upload would fix a lot of
standing bugs.

A new version is available on mentors:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/lesstif2
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/lesstif2/lesstif2_0.95.0-2.3.dsc

I hope somebody is able to give me more feedback (or ultimately upload
the package).

Andras,

In #520309, you described an issue with force group, which was
reported to Samba upstream as
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6230

In that bug, it is mentioned that the issue could be in some way
related to upstream bug #6291which was fixed in Samba 3.3.4.

As we uploaded that version yesterday to Debian unstable, are you in
position of trying it to check whether your issue with force group
is fixed there?

A full build log can be found at:

Note that you should not use -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 on all arches,
it will actually break on some, either use the AC_SYS_LARGEFILE or
use getconf LFS_CFLAGS.

Note that on an arch like amd64, where this error happened,
_FILE_OFFSET_BITS should not be set. So it might just be
that libexplain/large_file_support.h is doing a bogus
check for _FILE_OFFSET_BITS.

it was also not recognized there (normal or graphical) – also then this
warning was not written to the log. The warning appears only if I hit
   Shift + `.

So this problem seems to be related to qemu. Maybe this bug [1] is
   related to this.

If yes, could you please reassign this bug. If you have an ideo how I
get the = key to be entered into qemu that would be perfect.
There are several things you could try to help to nail down the problem:
Try another VNC viewer (e.g. vinagre). To find out what vnc port to
  connect to use:

  virsh start yourvm
  virsh vncdisplay yourvm

The display should be s.th. like:

  127.0.0.1:10

The port is 5900 + number ager colon so 5910 in the above example. So
to use vinagre it would be:

  vinagre 127.0.0.1:5910

If you still can't input the = then it's not a problem with
  virt-viewer but with qemu.

I cannot input »=« in vinagre either. Some special signs are the same
and some different than in virt-viewer though, i. e. some are displayed
as a square which have not been displayed in virt-manager for example.

Could you also paste you qemu commandline please?

I could not find where virt-manager stores the call.

It shoud have a -k de. If this isn't the case you can change
it either via virt-manager or by editing the keymap attribute in the
  domains xml.

I looked in the preferences and only found a keymap thing for the
 graphics/VNC. I also did

$ sudo virsh dumpxml debian guest.xml

 and found the following line.

 graphics type='vnc' port='-1' autoport='yes' keymap='de'/

So it seems to be a QEMU bug. I therefore reassign. I thought it might
be fixed with 0.10.3 because of this in changelog.gz

Which version of QEMU are you using? Could you please try with 0.10.X
series or even 0.10.3?

I believe this is caused by #525436.

yes, it is

Should be fixed in the next upload. Unsure what to do with this bug though.

 Piotr, comments?

as said before, let me know if you want me to convert this package to
debhelper's sequencer or make sure you invoke additional commands
*after* CDBS installs all files (the order changed lately)

Note that changes in Python files/dirs (jquery.js in this case) has to
be made *before* invoking dh_pycentral/dh_pysupport.

Quassel is not able to connect to OFTC when the SSL option in the

 $ openssl s_client -connect irc.oftc.net:6697

Bug#366175: Rootdelay

2009-05-03 Thread Jamie Thompson
I've just tried setting up a new machine (a Dell Precision 670) and hit
this bug *hard*. The setup I was aiming for was a software RAID 1 for root
(pair of SCSI discs, to be replaced by some small flash drives later), and
at a later date, a software RAID 5 array for everything else (collection of
SATA discs).

I initially wanted to install Testing, but at the time I was looking for
install images those available were having disk detection issues, so I
plumped for a Lenny image instead, which installed just fine, and booted
fine every time.

Once Lenny was installed I upgraded to Testing, and once that was installed
the reboot always failed, with the dreaded no devices preventing md0 from
coming up.

What really annoyed me at this point was the fact that I could never catch
the last few log messages before the busybox shell popped up, as straight
after it appeared some more boot messages about my disks would always
scroll it off the top of the screen.

This should have been a clue as to the issue, but I had no reason to even
assume that Debian would have such a fundamental bug! Surely waiting until
disk detection is complete (or at the very least, any dependencies of the
root filesystem!) is pretty fundamental?

Anyway. I've spent countless evenings after work trying to get this to work
until I stumbled upon a mailing list post suggesting rootdelay as a
workaround, and searching on that brought me here.

Would it be possible to get a message to appear when the root device isn't
available suggesting the use of rootdelay as a stopgap until this gets fixed?

- Jamie

Bug#526764: devilspie: Devilspie processes hastily the window_title property of a window.

2009-05-03 Thread Prekates Alexandros
Package: devilspie
Version: 0.22-1
Severity: normal

With Devilspie running and having the rule

(if
   ( contains ( window_name ) libc )
   (set_workspace 4 )
)

and if i open eg:
  $ evince libc6.pdf

the new evince window wont be repositioned correctly .

But having that window opened if i restart devilspie that
window will be repositioned.

I guess devilspie in the first case will read the property JUST when
evince starts , in which case the it has another title (which u can see
if u start evince with no parameters) .

So i guess this is partly a bug partly a wishlist report.

Does anyone know how to correct this? Or its sth that's out of
devilspie workings.

thanks.

Bug#526765: xfwm4: workspace names do not get saved

2009-05-03 Thread Thomas Prokosch
Package: xfwm4
Version: 4.6.1-1
Severity: normal

xfce 4.6 does not remember the names of the workspaces any
more, except for the first workspace. It also does not help to
make the config file readonly, since xfce resets the permission
of the file on next restart (how weird is that??).

The workspace name gets displayed on a prominent place (the
workspace switcher on the panel can be and is configured that way
in my installation).

Bug#526763: conky: freezing system or segmentation fault on 2.6.26 kernel together with orinoco_usb rev. 1300

2009-05-03 Thread tangwart
Package: conky
Version: 1.6.0-2
Severity: important

Hello all,

Conky seems to conflict with the orinoco_usb driver of my wireless
network card. It's an Orinoco usb device that works with the Linux
orinoco Driver from http://sourceforge.net/projects/orinoco/

The system freeze, so that you have to use the reset-button, or in some
less times it continues with segmentation faults.

I can't produce the error. It just happen after some seconds or minutes
when conky is running and the orinoco card is
switched on.

I used the rev. 1300 of orinoco_usb

I also report the problem on the orinoco-users mailing list
[http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=orinoco-users].

With the older kernel 2.6.18 and the rev. 1273 of orinoco_usb I could
avoid the problem.

Regards.

Bug#526766: evolution: Repeated Appointments are sometimes hidden

2009-05-03 Thread Johann Glaser
Package: evolution
Version: 2.26.1.1-1
Severity: important

I've got a daily appointment. At some days I move it to a different time or
remove it completely.

At some circumstances the repeated appointment is not shown in the day view.
I can't say which circumstances, so no reproducability. It seems that this
happens after the start of Evolution. When I select 2 or more days to be
shown in the day view, the appointment magically appears and stays there
even if I select only the current day.

A similar problem was experienced with version 2.22 and 2.24. The repeated
appointment was not shown. It couldn't even be unhidded by any trick
except restarting Evolution.

Bug#526132: dpkg-source displays warnings if gcc not installed

Hi!

If gcc is not installed and dpkg-source is used to extract a package,
 it produces the following warnings:

dpkg-source: warning: Couldn't determine gcc system type, falling back to
 default (native compilation)

This seems to be a regression from when the architecture handling code
got modularized. Previously it was not initializing the Arch substvar
if not needed.

I'm thinking the best is just to remove the substvar code from
dpkg-source as we have marked it deprecated anyway, instead of trying
to come up with a temporary workaround. I'll push the code later.

Bug#526767: python-pylons: Unexpected __init__.py exists on templates directory

2009-05-03 Thread Yuya Nishihara
Package: python-pylons
Version: 0.9.7-1
Severity: normal

Wrong __init__.py exists on
/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/pylons/templates/default_project,
which seems to be generated automagically by update-python-modules.

Since `paster create -t pylons foo' copies __init__.py to foo/__init__.py,
the project directory `foo' becomes a python module.

 foo .. the project directory.
 foo/__init__.py .. this shouldn't be exists.
 foo/foo/__init__.py ... top level module, `foo'.
 foo/foo/config
 ...
 foo/foo/tests

This cause a problem when executing nosetests.
nosetests prepends the project directory `foo' to sys.path, so we cannot
import foo.tests because it is mistranslated as `foo/tests/__init__.py',
not as `foo/foo/tests/__init__.py'.

/usr/share/doc/python-support/README.gz notices a workaround.
  Namespace packages and broken modules
  -
Some Python modules like Twisted rely on the fact that there is no
__init__.py file in some directories. THESE PACKAGES ARE BROKEN. You
should try to fix the package first to not rely on such implementation
 details.

However, if it turns out not to be possible, you can, as a workaround,
create a file named .noinit in the directories where you don't want
__init__.py to be created. In this case, update-python-modules will not
 create the namespace package.

Thanks.

Bug#526768: freebsd-utils: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2009-05-03 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: freebsd-utils
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for freebsd-utils.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading freebsd-utils with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, May 06, 2009, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Thursday, May 28, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#526648: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#526648: alsa-base: /proc/asound/dev not present

Please update to at least the lenny version.

I purged and then reinstalled alsa-base, alsa-utils, and
linux-sound-base, and nothing changed. Perhaps I need to do
the same with libasound2? Or some other package? I have
trouble figuring out what populates /proc/asound/version.

As supposed in /proc/asound/version, the _driver_ version is
 mentioned.
 # apt-get install alsa-source

 Follow the instructions in
 /usr/share/doc/alsa-source/README.Debian for installing drivers
of version 1.0.19. The drivers are either distributed by the
kernel or are provided by compiling them as described in
 README.Debian.

I have installed alsa-source. Although it isn't mentioned in the
README.debian, the module-assistant package came along with it. I
need to RTFM some more, and then I will try compiling the newer
drivers.

Should it be reported as a bug against the 2.6.26 kernel package
that it uses out-of-date alsa drivers?

Let me add some information just as background. Sound was working
with the 2.6.22 kernel before Lenny became stable. My sources.list
includes only testing. The only system software changes since then
have been the regular updates to testing. I don't use sound
regularly on that machine, so I don't know just when sound stopped
working. After I noticed the lack of sound, I installed the 2.6.26
kernel, which changed nothing. The only changes from Lenny that
strike me as possibly relevant are the alsa packages and udev. So
somewhere in a simple upgrade process something gets broken, but I
don't know what. (I'm inclined to suspect udev, but only because I
don't understand udev at all.)

Many thanks for your help. I will let you know of any further
progress (or lack of it).

regards cgm

Bug#526770: Problems after 2.2.2-10 to 2.4.1-2 upgrade

2009-05-03 Thread shaul Karl
Package: nut
Version: 2.4.1-2
Severity: important

Hello,

I had a running 2.2.2-10. Upgraded today, probably a little while after
2.4.1-2 hit testing. I can see the following problems:

1) Can upsmon log to the UPS without problems?
I have commented out the firing of upsmon in the init.d script, fired the other
2 layers with it (init.d script), and then issued
upsmon -DDD 2 ~/upsmon.out ~/upsmon.out.
After physically disconnecting and restoring the UPS mains power, I hited
CTRL-C on upsmon. The upsmon.out file is attached. Note that I have taken out
(and restored) the power cable only once.

2) /etc/default/nut was removed by the upgrade. /etc/default/nut.dpkg-dist was
not.

3) The permissions I set on the serial port, that is connected to the UPS, were
modified even though I have them listed with dpkg-statoverride.

4) The configuration example files are not fully consistent with the valid
configuration. For example, upsmon.conf.sample mentions an allowfrom line.

Bug#525317: Still no graphics, but no random crap anymore

2009-05-03 Thread Christian Ohm
Hello,

After installing the recent libqt upgrades from unstable I now get black
screens instead of random crap, and after upgrading virtualbox it happens also
on the first run after rebooting. I didn't do lots of testing, just one reboot
after each upgrade, so it might have been by chance, but perhaps it is helpful.

Best regards,
Christian Ohm

Bug#502908: [Pkg-cups-devel] Bug#502908: cups-client: [INTL:de] Initial German man page translation

2009-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Helge,

Helge Kreutzmann [2009-03-02 22:15 +0100]:
I finally got the branch but I cannot locate my previous work.

I didn't merge it yet, since you asked me to wait.

Also do you store the pot file somewhere easily accessible? Editing
a patch file looks rather cumbersome and errorprone to me.

The .pot is generated during build (po4a/po/cups.pot), thus you should
build the package once, then grab the pot, and produce a .po. You can
either just send that to me, and I'll integrate it, or you do that
yourself (dpatch-edit-patch manpage-translations.dpatch).

Thanks!

Martin

Bug#444182: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686: please include a kernel build without the drivers-ata-ata_piix-postpone-pata.patch patch

2009-05-03 Thread Scott Barker
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686
Version: 2.6.29-3
Severity: normal

As the drivers-ata-ata_piix-postpone-pata.patch removes the ability to
hot-swap a CD-ROM from a laptop media bay for several chipsets, please
consider building a flavour of the linux kernel that does not include that
patch, so that those of us with this problem can make the choice to install
a functional kernel, while not breaking operation for other users. Or,
perhaps create a package with only a functional ata_piix module that then
creates a diversion for those of us that wish it.

Bug#526772: fbgrab: wrong width producing garbage image

2009-05-03 Thread cyberia
Package: fbgrab
Version: 1.0.0-4
Severity: important

I use framebuffer console and I want to take a screenshot with fbgrab. But the
it gives me garbase image.

In any tty
$ fbgrab fb.png
or
$ fbgrab -w 1440 -h 900 -b 32 fb.png
or
$ cp /dev/fb0 fb.dump
$ fbgrab -w 1440 -h 900 -b 32 -f fb.dump fb.png
all produce garbage image.

After looking into fbgrab.c, I find it reads /dev/fb0 into buffer and treats
the width of the buffer as fb_varinfo.xres. This is incorrect since I have
xres_virtual larger than xres then fbgrab uses a wrong line_length.

And you originally installed it with aptitude install as well? Do
you know what changed on your system since then? Did you ever have
previous installations on this system?

debian/control file and fix of #524169 should be rolled back.

Other possible fix is adding MAIL_COMMAND option to configuration file.
Default value for this option should be /usr/bin/mail.

Bug#526774: dpkg: complains on pre-dependencies in trigger-awaited state

2009-05-03 Thread Eugene V. Lyubimkin
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.14.26
Severity: normal

Here is the relevant strings from upgrade log:

-8-
Preparing to replace x11-common 1:7.3+18 (using .../x11-common_1:7.4+1_all.deb)
...
Unpacking replacement x11-common ...
Setting up x11-common (1:7.4+1) ...
dpkg: regarding .../x11-utils_7.4+1_amd64.deb containing x11-utils,
pre-dependency problem:
 x11-utils pre-depends on x11-common (= 1:7.0.0)
x11-common is unpacked, but has never been configured.
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/x11-utils_7.4+1_amd64.deb
(--unpack):
 pre-dependency problem - not installing x11-utils
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/x11-utils_7.4+1_amd64.deb
-8-

As you see, x11-common has just been properly unpacked and even
configured, however it was in triggers-awaited stage after this
failure:

-8-
$ dpkg -l x11-common
...
iW x11-common1:7.4+1

I suspect dpkg failed to realize this.

Bug#526775: ktorrent: In need of dynamic stats update in the systemtray

2009-05-03 Thread Sheridan Hutchinson
Package: ktorrent
Version: 3.2.1+dfsg.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Ktorrent has a cute systemtray icon that has a really cool function. One can
hover their mouse pointer over the icon and it will give immediate upload and
download statistics for the currently downloading torrents.

The only trouble with this is that it only gives you one set of stats at the
time when the mouse pointer hovered over it. What would be really, really,
cool if the statistics dynamically updated to show realtime statistics.

Knemo the network monitor has similar functionality and it is highly, highly
useful in practice.
