update APT italian translations
Hi, I've made a PR on the APT's github page ( https://github.com/Debian/apt/pull/54) I'd be glad if you could check it and share your comments on it. Thanks, Tomas
Translations
Hi! At this point of my GNU adventure I reckon Debian is my favorite distro. I am very happy with it, it's my main and only distro. I'd like to give something back. I can perfectly translate from English, Spanish and Croatian to Italian. I can also translate from any of those languages to any other of those but I would prefer if the destination language was Italian for it is the language I know best and thusly it makes it simple and quick for me. cheers signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Re: System to inport outside DDTP translations back into Debian
Thanks Beatrice. I wasn't subscribed to the list, so I missed your answer. We'll go forward on our own to try and import translations. Sincerely, Pierre Pierre Slamich pierre.slam...@gmail.com 2013/4/2 Pierre Slamich pierre.slam...@gmail.com Hi, I'm Pierre, one of the Ubuntu French translations coordinators. I'm looking to set up a mechanism to import translations of the DDTP made in Ubuntu back into Debian on a regular basis (the French Ubuntu translators are translating up to several hundreds each week in French). I was told (1) on debian-i18n that you had put in place such a process to import external strings for Chinese (and possibly Italian) back in the DDTP. Could you share how you did it so that we can use it for French ? sincerely, Pierre (1) http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2013/03/msg00029.html -- Pierre Slamich pierre.slam...@gmail.com

We, as in the Italian DDTP translators, use nothing like what you are looking for. We have a couple of scripts written by Davide that automatically check things like partially translated packages or descriptions that have to be updated/retranslated. But they all call the description in the DDTSS interface and then all our translation/review work is done manually on the DDTSS. We have no bulk import of translations in the system. Important update to ISO 3166 translations
Dear I18N people, The iso-codes package provides list of ISO codes for languages, countries, etc. It is used by many software inside and outside Debian. Noticeably, the list of countries is used by the languagechooser component of Debian Installer. But it's also used in some parts of GNOME or KDE, for instance. A few days ago, the ISO-3166 standard has been changed to modify the name of the PS entry, namely now The State of Palestine. You can guess this is an important change, particularly sensitive to people in that region and we need to comply with it as soon as possible. So, please update translations accordingly (see attached file). Some of you are working through the Translation Project. The file will be updated there soon (I hope so), so please ignore this mail. For others, you can send updates throught the Debian Bug Tracking System. Many thanks in advance. # Translation of ISO-3166 (country names) to Italian # Copyright (C) 2004-2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Free Software Foundation, Inc. # This file is distributed under the same license as the iso-codes package. # Andrea Scialpi solo...@tiscalinet.it, 2001 # (translations from drakfw) # Alastair McKinstry mckins...@computer.org, 2001 # Danilo Piazzalunga danilopia...@libero.it, 2004 # Davide Viti zino...@tiscali.it, 2006 # Milo Casagrande m...@casagrande.name, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. # msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: iso_3166\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: Debian iso-codes team pkg-isocodes-devel@lists.alioth. debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2013-02-12 07:20+0100\n PO-Revision-Date: 2012-10-05 09:41+0200\n Last-Translator: Milo Casagrande m...@casagrande.name\n Language-Team: Italian t...@lists.linux.it\n Language: it\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8-bit\n Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=(n!=1);\n #. name for AFG msgid Afghanistan msgstr Afghanistan #. official_name for AFG msgid Islamic Republic of Afghanistan msgstr Repubblica islamica dell'Afghanistan #. name for ALA msgid Åland Islands msgstr Isole Åland #. name for ALB msgid Albania msgstr Albania #. official_name for ALB msgid Republic of Albania msgstr Repubblica d'Albania #. name for DZA msgid Algeria msgstr Algeria #. official_name for DZA msgid People's Democratic Republic of Algeria msgstr Repubblica algerina democratica e popolare #. name for ASM msgid American Samoa msgstr Samoa americane #. name for AND msgid Andorra msgstr Andorra #. official_name for AND msgid Principality of Andorra msgstr Principato d'Andorra #. name for AGO msgid Angola msgstr Angola #. official_name for AGO msgid Republic of Angola msgstr Repubblica d'Angola #. name for AIA msgid Anguilla msgstr Anguilla #. name for ATA msgid Antarctica msgstr Antartide #. name for ATG msgid Antigua and Barbuda msgstr Antigua e Barbuda #. name for ARG msgid Argentina msgstr Argentina #. official_name for ARG msgid Argentine Republic msgstr Repubblica argentina #. name for ARM msgid Armenia msgstr Armenia #. official_name for ARM msgid Republic of Armenia msgstr Repubblica d'Armenia #. name for ABW msgid Aruba msgstr Aruba #. name for AUS msgid Australia msgstr Australia #. name for AUT msgid Austria msgstr Austria #. official_name for AUT msgid Republic of Austria msgstr Repubblica d'Austria #. name for AZE msgid Azerbaijan msgstr Azerbaigian #. official_name for AZE msgid Republic of Azerbaijan msgstr Repubblica dell'Azerbaigian #. name for BHS msgid Bahamas msgstr Bahamas #. official_name for BHS msgid Commonwealth of the Bahamas msgstr Commonwealth delle Bahamas #. name for BHR msgid Bahrain msgstr Bahrein #. official_name for BHR msgid Kingdom of Bahrain msgstr Regno del Bahrein #. name for BGD msgid Bangladesh msgstr Bangladesh #. official_name for BGD msgid People's Republic of Bangladesh msgstr Repubblica popolare del Bangladesh # Nome esteso: Isola Barbados #. name for BRB msgid Barbados msgstr Barbados #. name for BLR msgid Belarus msgstr Bielorussia #. official_name for BLR msgid Republic of Belarus msgstr Repubblica di Bielorussia #. name for BEL msgid Belgium msgstr Belgio #. official_name for BEL msgid Kingdom of Belgium msgstr Regno del Belgio #. name for BLZ msgid Belize msgstr Belize #. name for BEN msgid Benin msgstr Benin #. official_name for BEN msgid Republic of Benin msgstr Repubblica del Benin #. name for BMU msgid Bermuda msgstr Bermuda #. name for BTN msgid Bhutan msgstr Bhutan #. official_name for BTN msgid Kingdom of Bhutan msgstr Regno del Bhutan #. name for BOL msgid Bolivia, Plurinational State of msgstr Bolivia, Stato Plurinazionale #. official_name for BOL msgid Plurinational State of Bolivia msgstr Stao Plurinazionale della Bolivia #. common_name for BOL msgid Bolivia msgstr Bolivia #. name for BES, official_name for BES msgid Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba msgstr Bonaire, Saint Eustatius e Saba #. name for BIH msgid Bosnia and Herzegovina msgstr Bosnia-Erzegovina
Please update d-i manual translations for Wheezy now
[Again sorry for cross-list posting] Hello all, Holger Wansing li...@wansing-online.de wrote: - I did a complete checkout of the manual in revision before my bad commit - update manual/en - perform the usual po|pot update process (with the merge_xml.awk script fixed with the patch by nabetaro (thanks for providing this so quick, Nozomu!)) - copy the changed files to my local svn tree - and commit them. So, at the end, all should be fine now. Caused by a corrupted script (and me not noting that the script has failed, since there was no error message) I created and committed incorrect po files, and translators have worked on them (notably Miguel, Yuri and Ji). Sorry guys, thanks for your time, but your work unfortunately was of no avail and had to be reverted. Now that the po files are correct, you will have to start again. I am really sorry!

Needed update for console-setup debconf translations (for Debian Installer)
Dear translator and translation team, The console-setup package translation is normally included in so-called Debian Installer level 1 translations. However, it was recently discovered that some of its localizable material was unfortunately not included in strings to translate. Instead of reincluding it blindly (and then mess completely Debian Installer localization statistics very late in the release process), I decided to deal with these updates separately. Please update the attached translation as soon as possible (within the next week would be great). That will considerably improve the user experience in your language, particularly with the graphical installer. Please send translation updates preferrably as bug reports against the console-setup package. If you don't know how to do this, please send them to debian-b...@lists.debian.org...and if you're really in trouble, please send them to me directly. Translation teams, if the original translator (see the To: field of this mail) is unresponsive, please take the translation over as soon as possible. Many thanks in advance for your help. Please accept apologies for the very late notice and the pressure we're putting on you for this update to happen. # Italian messages for debian-installer. # Copyright (C) 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 Software in the Public Interest, Inc. # This file is distributed under the same license as debian-installer. # The translation team (for all four levels): # Cristian Rigamonti c...@linux.it # Danilo Piazzalunga danilopia...@libero.it # Davide Meloni davide_mel...@fastwebnet.it # Davide Viti zino...@tiscali.it # Filippo Giunchedi fili...@esaurito.net # Giuseppe Sacco eppes...@debian.org # Lorenzo 'Maxxer' Milesi # Renato Gini # Ruggero Tonelli # Samuele Giovanni Tonon s...@linuxasylum.net # Stefano Canepa s...@linux.it # Stefano Melchior stefano.melch...@openlabs.it # # Milo Casagrande m...@ubuntu.com, 2008, 2009, 2009, 2010. msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: debian-installer\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: console-se...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2010-11-09 22:27+0100\n PO-Revision-Date: 2010-08-07 19:40+0200\n Last-Translator: Milo Casagrande m...@ubuntu.com\n Language-Team: Italian t...@lists.linux.it\n Language: it\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Call for translations: Release announcement
[ Sorry if you get that mail twice; I'm trying to get as much translations as possible, therefore some BCCs ] Hi! Attached you'll find the final draft for the release announcement for lenny. There are no changes in the content planed any more, only corrections for spelling, grammar and maybe style, so that's the perfect moment to start translating the announcement. As explained in [1] we'll need in the end the translated wml file and a text version to be send to your localised debian-news-LANG or debian-users-LANG mailing list. If you finish the translation of the wml file before Saturday 14:00 UTC please sent it to me, so I can make sure all the announcements reach the website in a coordinated way and are available as soon the release is ready. Regarding the text versions send to the mailing list: If your list is moderated (all debian-news-LANG lists and I think some debian-users-LANG) I would appreciate to get a contact person to ping when the mail should be sent out; if your list is not moderated (you don't have a debian-news-LANG list and your debian-user-LANG list is not moderated) you may send me your translated text version, too and I'll send can send it out for (unless you fear a latin1 charset user might break your characters). The current estimation for the announcement to be sent out is Sunday the 15th early morning UTC wise; I'll try to keep the contact people I get up to date should that shift (which is possible), so they don't have to stay nearby the computer all the time (after all it's - depending on your time zone - valentines day or Sunday). The most recent version of the announcement is available at [2]; but as said, there are no major changes planed. Should be interested in changes you can use the web frontend at [3] (you got revision 91; you can also show the differences between the revisions there). I'll add the translations I got to my subversion repository at [4]; shouldn't it not appear there and I didn't react on your mail, PLEASE PING ME! Last time I lost some translations due to my spam filter; even while weakening the filter a lot it is possible that I missed your mail somehow. (I'm very sorry should that happen.) Should there be any questions left, feel free to mail me or ping me on IRC. Please update translations for the Debian GNU/Linux FAQ
Hi, Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña, Simon Paillard, me and others have done quite some work on the Debian GNU/Linux FAQ since its latest upload in Jan 2007 (in the doc-debian package). This FAQ is published on all Debian mirrors (e.g. at ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/doc/FAQ/), on the Debian website at http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-faq/ (and at http://www.debian.org/doc/user-manuals#faq) and in the doc-debian, doc-debian-fr, doc-debian-uk and doc-debian-es packages. The English master text has seen quite some changes. It'd be cool if the various translations (de, es, fr, it, pl, pt_BR, ru, uk, zh_CN) could get brought back in sync, so that our users have a high quality faq when we ship lenny. For your convenience, I've created a diff of the sources between Jan 2007 and now; it's at http://mdcc.cx/tmp/debian-faq.diff-r4130.patch . You can fetch the current sources by running svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/ddp/manuals/trunk/faq (They're no longer maintained using CVS, but using Subversion (thanks to Raphael Hertzog).) If you haven't got direct commit acccess, you can sent translation patches by mail, submit them using the BTS or ask a committer to submit it directly. See http://alioth.debian.org/projects/ddp/ for the Alioth project where the FAQ is currently being maintained. If you find any errors in the original English text, of course please report them. Thanks for your work! Bye, Joost PS FYI: Currently, work is being done in splitting the FAQ off the doc-debian package, and shipping it in a new standalone debian-faq package. This won't matter directly for the need for translation updates, though. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Oregano needs updated translations
Hi! (sorry for the cross-post) Oregano is an schematic capture and front-end for circuit simulation, that was originally developed by Richard Hult, and the taken over by members of LUGFI, Argentina. I work on it both as upstream and as part of the Debian maintainance team. Oregano has been improved and has added quite a lot of features in the past year, but unfortunately most of the translations remain untouched. So, we are asking for volunteers to update the old translations, or to start new ones. Only Spanish, German and Catalan are updated. The languages that need updating are: French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, Swedish. Apart from these, any other language would be a new translation, and it would be greatly appreciated. If you want to collaborate, you can access the files, directly through the web, or using darcs, at: http://www.gazer.com.ar/repos/oregano-stable/ And send the patches to [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Love, Marga. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Sarge Release Notes - Second call for translations
The first call for translations was sent 3 days ago to debian-i18n. This second mail is mainly intended to reach translators for languages that have not yet responded and to provide an update for others. If you did not read the first call for translations [1], please do so now. The latest Release update [2] sets the deadline for the Release Notes, both the original and translations, on *May 27*; that is one week from now. This will be very tough as there are still some important improvements that can be made. We will try to have the English version ready by the end of next weekend, to allow as much time as possible to finalize translations, BUT small changes may happen after that, especially if it looks like the release will be postponed. If you would like to have a translation ready on the date Sarge is released, you should start _now_. Translations that are ready before the deadline _may_ be included on the Sarge installation CDs if space is available. No guarantees, and preference will be given to major languages. All translations, if fully translated and up-to-date, will be published on the Debian website [3], even if the translation is completed after the deadline. Your translation will be added to the website as soon as you submit an up-to-date translation. However, it may be removed again on the deadline if you fail to keep up with changes made in the English text over the weekend. There is no need to commit or send an update for every change that is made, but you should check for changes regularly. Please try to get others to proofread your translation. If you spot typos or have any comments on the English texts, please mail them to the debian-doc mail list. NOTE Further updates will be sent _only_ to the debian-i18n mail list (with CC to debian-doc and debian-release), so please subscribe to that list (low volume) or check the archives [4]. D-I Manual -- Status update / Last call to update translations
UPDATE FOR SARGE RELEASE Joey Hess has made a provisional timeline [1] for RC3 of Debian Installer, which is likely to be the one that will release with Sarge. The deadline for updates to the manual is 2 March Note: the timeline is not yet final, so this date may change. This means that all translations that want to be included on the CDs should be up to date at that time. The following languages will in principle be included: en cs es fr ja pt_BR. Possibly de and ru will be added to that list (if space allows). For most languages the number of files that need to be updated is listed on the index page for the manual [2]. This is based on doc-check. It shows especially the Spanish and Portuguese (BR) translations as needing updates! Future status updates = In line with a recent decision for general D-I translation, future status updates for the manual will be made to the debian-i18n mailing list only (with CC to debian-boot)! This to avoid the huge CC list that's used currently. Translation teams are requested to have at least one person subscribed to that list (which is quite low volume). Recent and planned changes == Recent updates: - Added note on LVM limitations for powerpc with workaround (using-d-i/modules/lvmcfg.xml) - Review and update of chroot installations (appendix/chroot-install.xml) - Fairly major update of description of package installation in 2nd stage after some changes in tasksel (boot-new/modules/packages.xml) - Loads of minor changes, updates and fixes There are likely to be some more minor updates to things like links to the website and such in the run-up to 2 March. Please try to follow these updates! I'm thinking of maybe adding a new section about network-console. Other major changes will not happen before the builds for RC3. Manual available from Sarge release pages on Debian website === The Sarge manual is now also published on the official Debian website from the Sarge release pages [3] and listed in debian-doc [4]. These builds are done from the Sarge branch which I update from trunk periodically. Thanks to Frank Lichtenheld for his efforts in making this happen. Several languages using .po files = A new translation for Portuguese (PT) has been started using .po files. The French translation is currently being converted and both the Greek and Tagalog translators have expressed interest in using .po files. Of course Russian translators have been using .po files for some time now. Currently the use of .po files is not officially supported, but a document [5] was added in SVN explaining how to do things manually. We will try to set up formal support for using .po files, including the option to commit the .po files instead of .xml files; automatic updates of the .pot and .po files; using the .po files when building the manual; translation statistics. Re: [i18n-no] Concerns for some translations of Debian Installer
The following languages which have been, at one time or another, complete in Debian Installer 1st stage (http://people.debian.org/~seppy/d-i/translation-status.html) will probably NOT be complete in the beta4 release of Debian Installer. 99% nb Hey! That must be about _one_ string or something that i missed. Don't know how that happend though, thought I'd taken them all. Well, but for release 5 I will make a new try :-/ Axel Bojer One of the magic Norwegians from Skolelinux :-)

About italian, you are right. The team translated everything in time, but one translator (all missing translations are from the same transator, I think) was a little late and we had some changes proposed when proofreading his translations. So the translations are actually ready but I tough it was too late for committing since the freeze was over. I am now waiting for the beta4 release before uploading that translations. Do you think that we are still in time? May i commit every changes now? If you reply Yes then we will join the 100%. Thanks, Giuseppe
