Consegui definir o windows manager default com o comando:
# update-alternatives --config x-window-manager
O problema é que ao instalar o openbox esse comando não tem mais efeito.
Alguem sabe o porque?

Sim, sempre usei o gdm, já que eu tambem usava o desktop gnome.
Mas agora a intenção é fazer login no modo texto mesmo e somente
usar um window manager quando houver necessidade.
Deu certo criando o arquivo .xinitrc para cada usuário, mas como já
disse antes, não sei quais as consequências disso

Instalei o Wheezy sem um desktop e em seguida instalei o Xorg e os
window managers: fluxbox, openbox e window maker.
O problema é que ao subir o X a partir do comando startx sempre carrega o
openbox, mas quero mudar de window manager padrão. Alguem pode me ajudar?
