Nice logo - and I would suggest giving the letters Maven a more modern
feel.
Same color, freeware sans-serif typeface, easy on the eye.
How about using Aller for the Maven letters in the logo:

Hopefully Maven is in that position ;-)

A large, not very bright, species of deer that wears giant antlers and
attacks what it doesn't understand. If that's what strikes you all as
a great metaphor for us, Maven, or both, go right ahead.

Well spotted, there.
Take 2, and assuming that the SIL Open Font License version 1.0 would work
in the case of Maven yields the font Sansation instead:
Tomcat... well they have a cat... fair enough
Hadoop... has an elephant
Hama has a hippo
Solr has a sunrise
Jackrabbit has a rabbit
Chemistry has a test tube
Openoffice has some abstract flying birds on a blue sky
Karaf has a beaker with a feather on top
ODE has a conductor with a feather
Personally, I think we need a new POM version to drive us forward.
As a visual goes, I'd look for something like a beaver (who builds
things) wearing geek eye-glasses (indicating 'it's a maven').

Hi,
I would like to know how to add a dependency (such as a jar) into the

I require to do this programmatically because the user set a dependency of

This jar needs to be known by

Interesting associations, to be sure.
Since Maven conveys more of the meaning of Expert, rather than Builder,
there might be a
difficulty finding an appropriate animal logo. I'd say just pick a logo
which sticks and doesn't make
most people react too negatively - and we're there.

I think the logo should emphasis what the name maven means: someone who
is an expert or connoisseur. Actually, I think the glasses on that animal
brings out that imagery -- although I would like to see it emphasized more.
The expertise could be also include blocks since modules/projects are the
+1 with the idea of a beaver or so. An animal building things would be a
better match for Maven.
The one you designed is already in the right direction. I would imagine one
with an additional pencil on the ear and a helmet like this one for

anything under 100px is fine... though when you grow vertically beyond 75px
is starts to take too much room.

Basically we need the logo to be recognisable when shrunk to fit into a
64-85px (100px max) high box. It doesn't have to look its best, and the
shrunk form could be a sub-image... for example the Jenkins logo is quite
large, but where a smaller logo is needed Mr Jenkins just gets
decapitated...
