Re: New Committer: Czesław Wolański
Hi, Thank you all for nice welcome messages. I am a newbie and still have lots to grasp. Let me therefore quote someone's words reflecting *almost accurately* my learning experience: "I am sure that my stupid (seen in the rear mirror) questions must have driven one or two to the edge, but everybody was helpful and did their best to help me". Why *almost accurately*? Because "one or two" in the above quotation should in my case be replaced with "at least two". ;‑) Thanks for time and patience in helping me join the ranks. With that said, I can only hope I can contribute in a more tangible way. OK But only from just 1-2 people, right? I doubt that it was the complete PMC. As far as I heard the first answer from the PMC to me was already agreed upon within the PMC, so this answer was the opinion of the whole PMC, although it was given by a single PMC member. I don't remember about any topic where every PMC has given an opinion that was collected first and then an answer was sent to you. Already this, first, answer I found completely inappropriate and was the beginning of a deep disappointment on my part. Until then I was convinced that at least the PMC in its entirety would react with wisdom and in an appropriate way to all problems of the project and that I could always hope for support from the PMC, no matter how big the problems were. Normally you can and should believe in this assumption. However, also the PMC consists of humans and these are not always free of errors. I can only speak openly about what I think, because imho problems can only be solved with openness. If this openness is interpreted to me as if I only want to provoke, I don't know what to do. I do not believe in polite lies. and please read me correctly, because I made it very clear that I do not mean the whole PMC: "Let me be more specific: I have little trust in those who are currently have a decisive influence on its activities, because there are also members of the PMC whose performance I regard with great respect and many members whom I have never got to know concretely." OK, this is your experience and therefore your opinion. Other inside and outside the PMC may have made different experiences. BTW: When someone is not invited until now means *of course not* that the person is not wanted. Because it is also possible that the PMC don't know her/him or doesn't see the full amount of participation in the OpenOffice project. How could a person not be known with whom e.g. Mathias has worked together? A person who had also worked on the previous flyers. I don't know how but it is possible. Nothing about that gives you the right to imply what you imply. Why should I have to consult with Jan at all? Here two people were treated differently, whether Jan bothers or not. That is my opinion, whether Jan shares it or not. Or if there's a linguistic misunderstanding, you missed your chance to make that clear. Re: New Committer: Detlef Nannen
Hi Jörg, that is in general no secret and well known: The PMC of an Apache project closely monitors the contributions of individuals. When a PMC member nominates an individual, it is usefull the member talks to other members before the nomination. The committee votes to decide whether the contributions of the individual qualify for committer-ship. Often there is a large consensus about this question. Than the individuals is asked, whether (s)he wants to become a committer. If the persons says yes, there is some legal and technical formalities and in the end (s)he will be presented and welcomed as a new committer. It is in essence the same way as in your case. Re: New Committer: Jan Høydahl (janhoy)
Hi and thanks for the welcome! I am an independent consultant working mostly with Enterprise Search technologies for large customers in Norway and Europe. I’m a committer and PMC member of the Apache Lucene project and my coding experience is mainly Java and Python. With AOO I have so far mainly contributed in translating the application and website into Norwegian. The old site was badly outdated. I’m a Mac user and have been using OOo and AOO regularly since 2005. I’d love to see the current AOO Mac version stop crashing, but I’m afraid I can’t help with that :( -- Jan Høydahl, search solution architect Cominvent AS - www.cominvent.com > 25. apr. 2016 kl. 23.37 skrev Marcus: > > Am 04/25/2016 09:38 PM, schrieb Kay Schenk: >> On Sun, Apr 24, 2016 at 12:37 PM, Dennis E. By way of introduction, I've been working with various flavors of Unix since the early 1980's. I started working with open source software in the mid to late 1980's and contributed code to BIND, INN, and trn, as well as a few other odds and ends. I started using FreeBSD in the early 1990's, became a src committer in 1998, and got my ports commit bit early last year. I made my first contribution to the FreeBSD openoffice port in 2003 and picked up the pace in 2012. In terms of contributing to OpenOffice, my interests are upstreaming patches from the FreeBSD port as appropriate, fixing bugs, and general housekeeping. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
