Keith,
I took a very quick look at the latest file and found many, many
incorrect x-refs to figure numbers, as well as other formatting
problems. At this point I have no hypothesis about the cause of this
continuing problem or any quick and easy way to fix it.

(When I checked this time, I found that I was wrong in my earlier

Keith,
The settings for the TOC do not include hyperlinks. Right-click on the
TOC, choose Edit, go to the Entries page, and add hyperlink at the
beginning and end of the Structure line. Click All at the end of that
line to apply the changes to all levels of the TOC. Click OK to save
the change.
LO developers finally fixed that master doc bug (inherited from OO) a few
(2? 3?) years ago.

As I’ve said before, a bug in AOO means that a book created using a master
doc (ODM) and the chapter files (containing hidden sections) will have some
incorrect internal cross-references to figure captions. More reliable to
use an ODT for the front matter and then copy and paste from chapter files
I agree. Much easier to follow.
BTW, the OOo3 naming convention was for a purpose that is no longer
relevant: something intended to be automated but never implemented JHW

Where are the most up to date files for Writer Guide 4.1? I found a
set from Dick Groskamp dated in March and April, but Chapter 4
(Formatting Pages) is missing. Is there a later update from someone
else? And Dick, do you have Chapter 4 somewhere? Thanks.

I have fixed the problems in the full-book ODT, but not in the
individual chapter files. I also took the liberty of making some
formatting changes, such as moving the margins, because if you ever
get around to making a print edition the text will fit better (extra
space on sides needed for binding

Additional info: the formatting problems are probably in the chapter files.
The x-ref problems could be, too, but probably are not. I didn’t check.

Looking more closely at the compiled book, I found a lot of formatting

These will give you the general idea of the errors I found. Some (such
as incorrect x-refs) are more important than others. --Jean

The PDF of the Getting Started Guide has many serious formatting
errors which I do not see in the chapter ODTs. Perhaps I am looking at

Now that the Getting Started Guide for v4.1 is finished, what do you

Did the Getting Started Guide ever get published? Is it available anywhere
other than on git?
Jean
The repo version of the guide came from a book I had updated for AOO3.4. I
had not included the macros chapter. (Long story on the history of that
book.) You’ll need to start from the v3.3 version of the macros chapter.

What formats do you intend to publish the Getting Started book in? PDF,
print, wiki? If PDF and/or print, will someone be creating a cover design?

If you're referring to the LibreOffice Getting Started Guide, it is a
bit over 400 pages - nowhere near 700.
My book on AOO is about 300 pages, as it covers fewer topics.

AOO does not allow CC licensed material. That’s a major part of the problem
of reuse. However, the body of documentation is also licensed under GPL,
which is sort-of allowed, with restrictions.

other spin-offs, in case they occurred. It later transformed into the

The two licenses under which the OOo 3.3 user guides were published
