That's a really good question and people have differing opinions.
My opinion is that when a new feature is not really a search, and/or it requires
more than just a single XML file, and/or it doesn't have general appeal (i.e.,
not many will use it) it should be an optional add-on.

Here's a half-baked solution. Add this function to calendar.js:

This is currently not possible. You can file a bug on it as a feature
request in bugzilla if you like.
The browser does something similar to pass in a URL to start with.
