Re: [DQSD-Users] IMdB issue
OK Kim, I did install the 4.1 beta and of course it works. The "notes" even mention "fixing" imdb or words to that effect. I always stayed away from v4.1 because it talked about 64b support but never mentioned continued 32b support. I'm just naive enough think it takes two programs - one 32b, one 64b - which I have discovered is not true. I am not a software guru, for sure. I still have the erroneous result from "check for update ..." but that is a "don't care" - just a curiosity. Thanks again for your help along the way. I find dqsd to be a fantastic program and would be "lost" without it as I prove every time I go to friends computer. Right you are -- I double-checked the details, and the imdb fix went in just after the release of 4.0.0.6. You could get the 4.1.0.0 beta, which contains a working imdb search. While I created a one liner for localaliases that works, I am not smart enough to edit the xml file. Perhaps you can point me on what to modify. Thanks ! ! Maybe if you picked up an imdb.xml manually from the list at some point, and copied it into your install directory, then the uninstaller might not delete it, since it differs from what the installer put there. But that's just a theory. I wonder if you could do the uninstall again, and then go back and check which files remain in the searches directory. Re: [DQSD-Users] IMdB issue
Very curious indeed. I opened that '02 file and it is doing exactly what the file says to do which isn't the right syntax to go straight to the movie typed as an argument. I'll do what you suggest and see what I come up with. This is pretty amazing stuff for me, more of a hardware guy than a software guy ! ! Thanx for your help. Re: [DQSD-Users] IMDb Issue
Well, it's not very elegant but it works. I solved the problem by creating a new search function and putting it in Local Aliases. imdb2|http://www.imdb.com/find?s=tt&q=/%s The search syntax becomes imdb2 Before I did this one liner and after I uninstalled IE7 as described before, I reinstalled DQSD 4.0 with the exact same error result. With imdb2 I am a happy camper until I (or someone) can find the real problem. As another "aside", I used the same Local Alias technique to help with those five digit references found in PC World Magazine thusly: PCW|http://find.pcworld.com/%s The search syntax becomes pcw FWIW, George -- Download Intel® Parallel Studio Eval Try the new software tools for yourself. Re: [DQSD-Users] IMdB issue
Jim, Thanks for the quick reply. I followed your instructions because I believe that FF does use some functionality from IE (could be wrong on that) It resulted in no change. I could not find similar functions in FF Options. I am hopeful someone else has an idea on this. Re: [DQSD-Users] IMdB issue
George, I am not familiar with FF but for Windows/IE8 the "allow active content" error is resolved with the following steps: This will allow script execution on the local computer. 1) Go to Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced. 2) Scroll down to Security. 3) Check the box "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer". 4) Click Apply, exit and restart any open IE windows. - This is a step in my DQSD installation guide for Won7/64-bit at: http://www.sevenforums.com/software/11289-daves-quick-search-installed-w7-71 00-64-bit.html Perhaps the same setting affects FF or you can find the equivalent in FF.
