Yes, each classes/files can be replaced into the class folder, or better
into the tomcat
Thank you! It is working as you have said. I am wondering why it is working

it mean that I can do the same with any other classes/files in .jar files?

Hi,
yes we can (sounds like the president Obama) :-)
First, get from source code deployed in your webapp the original
message.properties.
Follow this step:
1)find dspace-api-xxx.jar in yourwebapp/WEB-INF/lib
2)decompress it in an external

You'll need to use a program called native2ascii to convert your
properties files back to unencoded utf8. Alternatively, you could use a
gui tool such as TongueTied or Eclipse's property file editor to convert
the properties file into a text readable format for editing.
Hope this helps.

Hi Michael,
good to hear, that you solved it.
There is one caveat though with using the jspui overlay message
catalogue. This will only affect the jspui and not the api part, so
parts of the emails for workflow notifications or subscriptions will
still be pulled from the orginal

Hi
Try deploying your properties files straight to your dspace instance to
see if they are working correctly;
1. /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/dspace/jspui/webapps/jspui/WEB-INF/classes
(change the path to your unpacked dspace war path)
2. Restart tomcat
You could also check that the correct

Hi all,
if you want to customize the existing Messages.properties no matter what
language the files are placed under:
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources
e.g.
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources/Messages.properties
Dear All
i am using dspace 1.5.1 in fedora 9. I am facing difficulties in
modifying Messages.properties
This is the default path for the Messages.properties file in dsapce 1.5.1

It is better not to touch the source directly.
Assume you have only one Messages.properties,
place it in [your_dspace151_src]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources
If you have multiple properties files for different languages, place
them under different dirs under resources.
After editing,
You can copy it from [dspace-source]/... to [dspace]/... . But it is
better to say 'ant init_configs' in
[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-[version-no.]-build.dir/.
This applies to all changes in the config-directory. After this You
should restart You web-application server (like Tomcat).
To be more precise:
You can copy it from [dspace-source]/dspace/config/ to [dspace]/config/.
But it is better to say 'ant init_configs' in
[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-[version-no.]-build.dir/.
No other directories are to be touched, if You Web-server is configured
to use the
