You probably mean using Nginx as a reverse proxy in front of Tomcat.

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/NginX+Tomcat+Proxying

and rename of
 http://localhost:8080/xmlui to http://mydomain:8080/research or
simply http://mydomain/research  specifically in WINDOWS platform ?

Edit your tomcat's server.xml, example:

Context path=/research docBase=/dspace/webapps/xmlui debug=0
reloadable=true cachingAllowed=false
allowLinking=true/

Then you will probably also want to edit dspace.baseUrl in dspace.cfg.

[Dspace-tech] Collection strengths are not shown

2011-08-10 Thread Amir Pourabdollah
Dear Team,

I have set these in the config file:
webui.strengths.show = true
webui.strengths.cache = true

and did /bin/dspace itemcounter
and restarted Tomcat

but the counter are still not shown in jspui
setting cache = false also didn't work.

Nothing in both cases in xmlui too.

Any idea on what is missing, please!

Thanks,
Amir.

[Dspace-tech] Tools for automatic creation of dublin core and contents

2011-08-10 Thread Magnus Norberg

Hello everyone,

does anyone know if there are any tools for automatic creation of dublin core
files and contents files?

One need these files for batch import, one for each object. But if I have like
a thousand files (for example PDF files) on my harddrive that I want to import
into DSpace in a batch import, I do not want to create all these Item1,
Item2 and so on directories one by one, and then create dublin core and
content files one by one for each object, it would take too much time...

thanks for your help!

[Dspace-tech] upgrade jump .. suggestions needed

2011-08-10 Thread Kevin P. Foote

Hi all

I'm /still/ in the process of upgrading our ancient 1.3 version of
dspace to 1.7.1..

I have 1.7.1 installed on a fresh new system working and looking how we
would like it.

Now the kicker.. our 1.3 install was never used to its full potential
but there is one collection that I need to bring forward to the 1.7.1
new install..

Using a dsrun org.dspace.app.itemexport.ItemExport bla-bla on old
server then a
dsrun org.dspace.app.itemimport.ItemImport bla-bla on new server process
did not result in any content being brought into the new system..

I'm thinking that I will have to do this a harder way.. Here is what I'm
thinking.. please advise/suggest

1) pg_dump the dspace 1.3 database to a flat SQL file.
2) copy SQL file to new server
3) pg import SQL file into a new empty database (not my 1.7.1 db)
4) run upgrade scripts ?SQL only? (assuming I can find them) for (1.4,
   1.5, 1.6, 1.7)
5) replace my empty 1.7.1 db with the updated

We created a tool that will do that work for you, all you need is the list
of filenames and the metadata in a csv file, such as can be created by any
spreadsheet program (Excel or OpenOffice, for example). It'll then create
the batch import structure for you. This might be one way to help with
your problem.

[Dspace-tech] Changing Thumbnails

2011-08-10 Thread Owen Williams
Hello,
I'm developing code to produce sliders or carousels of thumbnails.
We're hoping to include video in our repository www.dora.dmu.ac.uk. I
thought I could add a thumbnail upload at the point where a bitstream is
uploaded. But I found that the preferred method is to use:

dspace filter-media

I think, though and people on this list agree, that the user should be
able to choose the thumbnail for a video, or any media, because the
automated process is too indiscriminate.

I'm hoping that I can produce something where the automated process is
backed up by the chance to change the thumbnail with one the user
chooses.

Has anyone done something like it? Is this a good approach?

Best regards,

Owen.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Tools for automatic creation of dublin core and contents

2011-08-10 Thread Mark Diggory
I think Magnus is looking for a tool that reads the pdf and extracts
subjects, title, author metadata from it. We do not have something like
that at this time. However, someone could write either a mediafilter,
curation task or consumer that would parse the documents and pull out
possible metadata fields, though this would be heuristically complex if it
is not in PDF or DOC metadata/bibliographies/etc. I believe there are some
third party tools out there that do make an attempt to extract such data,
but a review is necessary and we could engineer something that supports this
capability for DSpace.

http://meta-extractor.sourceforge.net/
http://meta-extractor.sourceforge.net/
http://www.pdfa.org/doku.php?id=artikel:en:pdfa_metadata

Other formats...

http://www.forensicswiki.org/wiki/Document_Metadata_Extraction

Magnus, we do complete a full text extract of the document which is indexed
into the DSpace search system.

Cheers,
Mark

Not, it doesn't. It just makes it easier to generate the DSpace batch

Re: [Dspace-tech] upgrade jump .. suggestions needed

2011-08-10 Thread Kevin P. Foote

Hilton,

Thanks for the pointer. I've had to modify the collection-export script
to replace the call to bin/export as its not present on OLD OLD OLD
versions of dspace. But the export still works.

Now a second follow up ..

I'm actually exporting and importing two collections with differing
handle values. (It is beyond me why this was the case.)

I need to place these under the same handle on the new dspace instance.

Once I dump the data using above referenced method can I (safely) use shell
scripting to modify each dublin_core.xml file of the stale handle and
update that to our new handle.. before the import?

Will this cause any issues once we have fully moved to our new instance?
I imagine I will have to do some re indexing etc..
