I am running DSpace 3.1, and it keeps crashing reporting an error with the JRE:

item-view.xsl, and have that working correctly
I need to set up many collections in DSpace 1.7.2
(about 100) and I don't have time to go through the agony of
thousands of screens of permission settings, especially since
they are all the same. Is there a way to speed up defining collections and
setting permissions?

The last time I did something similar, I came up with some rudimentary
script that made use of the Community and Collection Importer [1]
--that should help with the ~100 collections. The utility also
supports hierarchical structures.

A server response code 404 means it can't find the resource/page you're trying
to invoke. Look in the dspace.log(s) to see if there is any additional
information about the error (there likely will be).
You can also look in the server error and/or access log(s) to see exactly
what's happening.

this might not dspace's problem, but i dont know..
i have cron job for several maintenance and optimization function. one
of them that can easily be observed is hourly 'dspace itemcounter'.
for some reason it didn't work, as i can see that even though there are
new recently added items,
