Is the DX4WIN installed into Program Files folder?

Same for me.
Start with the basics. What is the file that's being double-clicked upon?
Is it the actual dx4win.exe, or is it a shortcut that might be pointing to
the wrong file?
Right click the file and choose "Open". Does that work?
Obviously dx4win is installed and can be executed (as double-click on a log
file opens it), so something is not working properly for whatever they're
clicking.
(I've seen cases where people saved the TQSL installer on their desktop and
double click that to open TQSL, then complain that it runs the installer
rather than opening TQSL.)

Any ideas, suggestions?

Re: [Dx4win] Two log books simultaneously?

The Group is the highest feature in the DX4WIN, I've used it ever since
the very first version. It's brilliant, to say the least.

Hi Brad,

I suggest using Group Numbers and Selections for this.

Set Group number for QSOs in your N9EN log to 1
Set Group number for QSOs in your W4A log to 2
Merge W4A log into N9EN
Give the group numbers names
Define a Selection for N9EN QSOs
Define a Selection for W4A QSOs
(Check the Group number box)

Doing so will show all QSOs by default but activating
a Selection can limit the QSOs used for reports etc to a single group
The Same Call Window will show the Group name(s) for a callsign

I've done that using Excel Pivot Table then uploading to my website SQL

Personally, I can't see the value of knowing the count of QSOs by country.
DX4WIN has the summary and other information regarding counts of countries
worked in total, by mode and by band. That is extremely important to me.

Good luck

Maybe there is a chance to add this feature in any future version.

directory.

THEN

Bring up the "Master Calls" window press F1 and follow the 4 steps in help
to making a master call file of the calls in your log. When you do step 4 a
box will come up telling you how many calls are in the Master call file you
created. That is your answer.

From the help file here are the four steps

1. Export your log using the 'calls' filter

2. Save the file somewhere, and call it calls.txt

3. From the PopUp menu in the Master Calls window select 'Convert'

4. When asked for the file to convert, select the file you created in step 2

callsign field. Even with a wildcard (JA*) in the callsign field you'd only
get calls matching exactly JA*, you would get things like JR, JH, etc.
However, with that said, you could use that to filter down then export from
logbook. Personally I'd just use F8, enter JA in the Prefix field and 80m in
the Band field. You'll have the results in the Logbook, which you can export
using "write to file". You'd then import the resulting CSV file and use one
of the spreadsheet programs to find the uniques. (There are other tools to
do that, but it seems like most folks have access to at least some form of
spreadsheet program.

Yes, very easy.

This is one of the things I love about DX4Win.

Open the country window.
Open the logbook window.
In the QSO window, type JA in the callsign field. Do NOT press Enter or Tab
or anything Double click "80" in the country window and your logbook will
contain only 80m JA QSO's.
Scroll down the logbook window and you will see how many JA's on 80 you have
worked.

[Dx4win] lazy log

2020-02-18 Thread PY2YP
This maybe not a DX4WIN problem, a Windows one instead. When starting
DX4WIN it takes too long to load the log file, around 20 seconds. This
happened from nothing about two or three days ago and on. As far as I
know nothing neither changed the Windows settings nor the DX4WIN.

I've already tried:
1. Export the log file, created a new one and import the log, the result
was the same;

2. Reinstall the DX4WIN, same thing;
3. Kindle up a candle, dance either clockwise and counterclockwise
around the computer, again nothing changed.

Any idea?

Yes Jim, you're right. Should be a great improvement if the "Additional

That only works if you assign the same group # to each and every
single FT4 or FT8 QSO you make. There is no way in DX4WIN to create a
filter selection by MODE, only by DATE or Group #.

Re: [Dx4win] FT8 - DXCC

2020-01-02 Thread PY2YP

I use the Group feature to do that.

On 1/2/2020 3:26 PM, Jim Reisert AD1C wrote:

Hola Raymundo,

There is no easy way to get DXCC status for only FT8 QSOs. You can
use F8 to search for QSOs made using FT8, but a DXCC status report
will still include all QSOs in your log. You will have to export your
FT8 QSOs into a separate log to see what you want.

Using F8, search your log for Mode=FT8. Then use File | Import/Export
to export the search results to an ADIF file.

Use File | New in DX4WIN to create a new, empty log file. Give it a
temporary name, definitely NOT the same name as your main logbook.
Then import those FT8 QSOs from the previous step into this new log.

From there, you can do a DXCC report to see how many DXCC entities you

have worked on FT8.

The same goes for FT4, but for the F8 search, you need to search for
Mode=MFSK and Submode=FT4.

If you want to see combined DXCC statistics for both FT4 and FT8,
export the QSOs made with those two modes separately, then import both
FT4 and FT8 ADIF files into the same empty DX4WIN log.

Thanks Paul,

It worked perfectly. The text file bore both QSOs.

I exported py2yp_wdupe.dxl and py2yp_nodupe.dxl to py2yp_wdupe.txt and
py2yp_nodupe.txt using BASIC filter. After that I did use DOS command:

diff py2yp_wdupe.txt py2yp_nodupe.txt > differ.txt

and then:

type differ.txt

Great! Thanks again Paul.

If you want to mark it invalid only for a specific award, you can do

Re: [Dx4win] Make it easier to find/import your WSJT-X logs using a symbolic link

I got tired of navigating to the WSJT-X directory every time I wanted
to import my WSJT-X log into DX4WIN. Fortunately, Windows 10 has a
solution. The idea is to create a symbolic link in your SAVE
directory that points to the WSJT-X log directory. The full
instructions for creating symbolic links are here:

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

Here's the quick start:

1. Start by opening a Command Prompt in Administrator mode. From the
Start menu, find "Windows System" and right-click on "Command Prompt'.
Follow the "More" link and then click "Run as Administrator".

2. Determine the location of your WSJT-X log directory. Here is one way:

 cd %localappdata%
 C:
 dir

You should see a WSJT-X directory there. The full path should
look something like this:

 C:\Users\jjrei\AppData\Local\WSJT-X

3. Now determine the location of your DX4WIN SAVE directory. Mine is here:

 E:\dx4w903\save

4. "cd" into your DX4WIN save directory:

 cd E:\dx4w903\save
 E:

5. Finally, create the link. Here is the command I used:

 E:\dx4w903\save> mklink /D WSJT-X C:\Users\jjrei\AppData\Local\WSJT-X

(do not type the part *before* the >, only the part beginning with "mklink"

That's all there is to it. The next time you want to import using
"File | Import", you will see the WSJT-X link in your SAVE directory.
Double-click on that link, and you'll find your WSJT-X ADIF file
there.

This is not limited to WSJT-X, you can create links to anything you want.

pieces of software (not only on the user's end, but on the ARRL end) a
complete control of overwriting my log without my knowledge, especially
considering the complete failure of the TQSL and LOTW software to
institute station information validity check (incorrect CQ, ITU zones,

I hope DX4Win never turns into another iTunes garbage interface with

[Dx4win] Map color

2017-10-24 Thread PY2YP

I'm really happy. I've played with the version 9 for a few days,
so far no problem of any kind. Well, almost, trying to change the map
colors, the water color changes nicely but the land colors option
doesn't change anything, this is an ancient and recalcitrant bug that
started several versions ago. The default land color is good enough but
this bug should be smashed out.

[Dx4win] CAT

2017-10-24 Thread PY2YP
I have a FT-2000 correctly wired, everything works fine except that the
DX4WIN only sends data to the radio when the log entry is set to receive
data input, F9 pressed. When the DX4WIN is not set for data input the
radio remains connected but no sends information to the peripherals, as
SPE amplifier or antenna switch, say, if I change the band on the radio
the amplifier and antenna switch remain where they were, no band
switches. It also happens with the band map window, say, its only follow
the radio if the F9 was pressed. This behavior doesn't happen when
using WSJT, MMTTY for example. I've had this problem from DX4WIN
previous versions and also when using FT-1000MP and FT-1000MP Mark V.

Can someone using Yaesu try to replicate this issue, please?

not follow the radio. It stay where it is. I do have the box follow radio

I do use Window 10, radio is a K3, with microkeyerII. The bandmap reads the

Re: [Dx4win] FW: USING FT8

2017-10-08 Thread PY2YP

Here it goes again:

===
The following procedure might interest to someone, so here it goes. I
use to log all my FT8 QSOs as JT65A because of my log software does not
have FT8 on it, besides I've never worked any QSO on this mode. In order
to upload the FT8 QSOs properly, logged as JT65A, I create a mapping on
the TQSL that will change the JT65A to FT8 and then upload it without
having to change the ADIF file. Mapping means changing the ADIF on the
fly, so no other action will be required.

To modify the TQSL open it and go to FILE | DISPLAY OR MODIFY
PREFERENCES, next open ADIF Modes tab and press Add... scroll down the
Resulting TQSL mode window and find out FT8, click once over it and type
JT65A into the ADIF Mode box now press OK and it's done.
This procedure may be needed again in case of either TQSL update or new
configuration file.

as that allows the change from "TOR" to "FT8" to be done
without having to change the length of the mode string (MODE:3 means

Re: [Dx4win] Importing papar logs

I did log all paper QSOs using Fast Log Entry by DF3CB which makes the
task very fast and easy. After typing a given period you have to
generate an ADIF file then import it from the DX4WIN. The nice side of
typing, despite of being a little tedious, is that I did find several
new band countries, most of them deleted ones, that I didn't know that I
had. By the way I don't know any OCR smart enough to understand
callsigns, if some one find one please let me know, I'd love to try it.

[Dx4win] DXCC application

2014-06-23 Thread PY2YP
In order to apply for DXCC submission using the DXCC ON LINE in the ARRL
site I need to generate an ADIF file selecting cards only. This first
step was easy, I did uncheck the LOTW option in AWARDS tab and asked the
DX4WIN to generate the SUBMISSION form. Is that any way to generate an
ADIF from this form, I mean, selecting S in the DXCC band box and S
in the DXCC band mode? If I select S for bands and then S for mode I
would generate 2 ADIF files. Of course it is not possible to select both
S (band and mode) at the same time. How are the users doing their
applications? I did export both selections, created a temporary DXL and
generated the ADIF from this one, but I think that might be an easy way
to do that.

Hi Cesar,

As you found out, it is not possible to make just one ADIF file.
However, the last time I did this several years ago, I think I made
two ADIF files and submitted them both at the same time. Or you could
take one of the two ADIF files, remove the header (up until the EOH
at the top), then append that to the second ADIF file, using a text
editor.

To: DX4WIN Reflector dx4win@mailman.qth.net

I've released test version of the new version of this program:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

You can download it from here:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/download/dx4wlotw_v7.0_20140428.exe

This is an installation kit, so download it and then run it to install
the program. It MUST be installed in the same directory as
DX4WIN.EXE. If it is not installed in the correct directory, you may
see an error message like the following:

Could not open prefix mapping file:
 c:\dx4w805\save\import\adif.pmp
Are you sure the program is installed in correct directory?

[I may change this to happen as soon as you start the program, rather
than waiting until you click on the Compare button.]

NOTE: if you try to run the program and get an error message about
mfc100.dll, your computer may be missing a Microsoft library.
Instructions for installing this missing library is at the top of this
page:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

The instruction at the top link above, for collecting the data and
running the program, are somewhat out-of-date, but I don't have the
tools to change them at the moment.

The program requires two inputs:

1. DXCC listing report from DX4WIN (instructions on web page still
correct here).

2. DXCC QSL Download (ADIF) from ARRL LoTW web site:

  * Log into the ARRL LoTW site (http://lotw.arrl.org)
  * Click on Awards in the menu bar at the top
  * On the Logbook Awards page, click on Select DXCC Award Account
  * On the Your Logbook DXCC Award Account page, look on the
right-hand side for this sentence:

For an ADIF download with the details of all QSLs in your
DXCC record use DXCC QSL Download.

  * Click on the DXCC QSL Download hyperlink and save that file
in the same directory as your DX4WIN DXCC Listing report (which
doesn't necessarily have to be your DX4WIN directory).

Now run the program from the Start menu (or double-click the desktop
icon if you created one).

 * click on the DXCC QSL Download button, navigate to and select
the file you downloaded in step #2 above.

 * click on the DX4WIN Report button, navigate to and select the
file you created in step #1

[I may reverse the order of the two buttons at the top, so DX4WIN is
first, and LoTW is second.]

 * click on Compare

The output should be the same as before (i.e. as described on the web
page whose link is at the top of this message).

Please send me bug reports, comments, etc. so I can improve the
program. It has only had minimal testing. Please try including
deleted entities vs. not including them. Please try band vs.
frequency in the logbook.

However, I have not released it, and frankly, after I tested it once
myself back in late January, I never got back to it. If you or anyone
else wants to test it, I can put up a test version for download. The
instructions on that web page will need to be updated, to replace
saving the Award Credit Matrix with downloading the aforementioned
ADIF file.

There is some work to do in adding a real Windows installer, but that
should not take too much work.

Re: [Dx4win] Dupes

2014-01-09 Thread PY2YP
You are right Teijo, a dupe definition is mandatory before thinking
about removing. A dupe is a nearly exact time, say a 5 minutes window or
precisely the same time, resulting either from typing old logs or
importing old logs. I have faced this problem several times when working
with PY0S old logs. A nice improvement in the delete dupee tool should
be allowing the user to define the time window. I think several users
have faced this problem before.

A definition of a dupe would be good.

Does it mean a dupe like in a contest i.e. a separate contact that has
been made on the same band but at a different time?

I think that in this case it is a bad idea to remove the dupes from the
log. The dupe contact might be the only one that is both in your log and
the other stations log. The first occurence might not be in the other
stations log at all for some reason (he/she worked somebody else, had a
computer glitch etc).

On the other hand I have noticed that my log contains some QSOs that are
separated only by seconds. They have resulted by importing the same log
twice into another logging sw that I used before DX4Win. This kind of
contacts I have removed manually which was time consuming.

Hi, John.

I have been using DX4WIN since V2. It has been four-and-a-half years
since V8 was released and three years since it was last
updated. Last
year at this time I told myself I would give Paul one more year to
provide us with some meaningful updates or I would move on to an
actively-maintained program like DXLAB. Using DX4WIN is
second nature
to me and the learning curve for a program like DXLAB will be fairly
high, but at least DXLAB is moving forward, not stagnating.

I downloaded DXLAB last night (as you know it is free) and so the
journey begins

Thanks for the memories, Paul, and all the support, Jim.

Hal,

To be more precise on how I handle this, do the following.
You have your current log which may be called MASTER or N4GG (whatever name
you use).
Assuming you have the other logbook already in an electronic format, create
a new log (File | New) and give it a name (you can use the call sign for
that log). Next you have to indicate the group number for the QSO's in this
log. Go File | Preferences | QSO, and fill 2 in the Group field. I assume
you have 1 for the first log.
Next import all the QSO's into this log.

Now you can handle the 2 different logs accordingly or you can merge the two
logs. To do the latter, take the following steps:
First open the first log (MASTER or N4GG in this example).
Next: File | Import | and chose DX4WIN8 I/E and chose from the menu File |
Import. Follow the next steps to select your file with the second log and
import it. Save the log.

Now go to the menu and chose Filter | Edit Group Names (look in the manual
how to do this) and give a name to the group numbers. In your case 1 is N4GG
and 2 is the other call. Once ready, you will have all calls in one log but
you can see for which call the QSO is (assuming you have selected group
field in your logbook report.

Subject: [ARRL-LOTW] Trusted QSL version 1.14 is available for beta testing

Over the past 4 months, Rick K1MU, Robert KC2YWE, and I have rebooted the
Trusted QSL project from which the TQSL and TQSLCert
applications and the TrustedQSL library are built. After considering input from
ARRL Management, from the ARRL?s LotW Support Group,
and from this ARRL-LotW Yahoo Group, we established a set of priorities that
would be addressed by a sequence of incremental
releases. The first release in this sequence is version 1.14, in which

1. Log files can be signed and uploaded over the internet to LotW in
one operation.
2. Errors in Station Locations are reported (e.g. incorrect CQ and ITU zones).
3. QSOs that need not be re-submitted ('duplicates') are brought to
the user's attention.
4. Error reporting has been improved.
5. Installation on Windows has been improved.
6. Users are notified when a new version becomes available.
7. Documentation has been improved.

A small group of testers began exercising version 1.14 on March 10th;
this testing exposed several defects, all of which have been
corrected. We are now ready to begin the next stage of testing: every
member of this Yahoo Group is invited to download version 1.14,
install it, and give it a try. Questions, defect reports, and
suggestions should be posted here.

The current release candidate v1.14-rc5 is available via

Re: [Dx4win] Utility program: LoTW Credits to DX4Win Awards

2013-01-02 Thread PY2YP
I did endorse only via LOTW late December, the paper application will be
sent this month, so I had this problem: how to change S to C in the
DX4WIN once all the Ss included the paper cards Ss as well? I mean: how
to change only the Ss referred to LOTW credits to C at once? I found out
a very easy and fast procedure. I did as follow:

1. In Change Award Flag I cleared all Ss selecting clear submitted
option;

2. In Award Setup for DXCC I cleared the QSL Card box;

3. In Award Generator I selected Submission option.
At this point the DX4WIN generated an application form for LOTW credits
only, accordingly to the #2 above.

4. In Change Award Flag I changed all the Ss to Cs selecting
Submitted - Checked option;

5.  In Award Setup for DXCC I checked the QSL Card box;

6. In Award Generator I selected Submission option to restore the Ss
related to paper cards application.

DX4Win can automatically create a list of DXCC QSOs for awards
submissions to the ARRL. However, changing those Submitted entries to
Checked in your awards table after they are approved by the DXCC desk
is a tedious manual process. When purchasing hundreds of LoTW credits
recently I vowed that I would write a utility program to enter the
credited data back into DX4Win... which is what
LoTWCreditToDX4WinAward.exe does.

This utility program is difficult to setup and run. It relies upon a
feature of the DXLabs DXKeeper program to: reach out to the LoTW
website, extract all of your CREDIT history (for both QSL cards and
LoTW transactions), compare all of your credit history with your log,
and make adjustments where appropriate. It also requires that you export
your DX4Win v8 log to a DXQ file, massage it with the utility program,
and import the massaged file back into a fresh log in DX4Win.
Complicated? Yes. Was there any other way to accomplish the task? ? Not
that I could see.

Please don't confuse a QSO CONFIRMATION from LoTW (which is what happens
when you download an LoTW report and import it into DX4Win) with LoTW
CREDIT (which is what happens when you pay money to the ARRL for award
credit). The first is easy; the second requires some heavy lifting.

If you are feeling adventurous and don't mind installing the DXLabs
DXKeeper application suite as part of the process, you will find
instructions and the utility program on my website at:
http://www.k8ut.com/tiki-index.php?page=LoTW+Credits+-to-+DX4Win+Awards+Utility

As I said - this is not easy and I would not encourage computer novices
to attempt it. BUT - if you want to compare and update your DX4Win Award
Credit records with those from the ARRL, I think this is the only
automated game in town.

Re: [Dx4win] Submitting ADIF file for card-only DXCC application

Yes, it works very well; I did exactly you write a few days ago. I
wonder if there is any way to mix together the mode and band ADIF files
but I can upload the files separetly without any problem. I also have
some misunderstanding how the ARRL online application does sort the

its own default, am I right?

Before I left for a week of vacation (back now), I found a relatively
painless way to generate a card-only DXCC application in ADIF format.
I plan to document this elsewhere, but wanted to present it here,
before I forgot. I'm sorry that it's probably too late to make the
12/31 annual listing deadline for most people.

Please make sure of the following:

1. You have downloaded your Logbook of the World confirmations from
the ARRL LoTW web site, and imported these into DX4WIN (LoTW | Import
from LoTW).

2. You DXCC award is configured for both QSL card and LoTW
confirmations. You can do this via the Reports menu, then by clicking
on the Awards button at the bottom-right of the Report generator
window.

3. You are using the DX4WIN award flags to track Checked (approved)
and Submitted DXCC credits.

4. This method assumes that you will submit all possible LoTW
confirmations for credit, and only QSLs for which you do not have a
LoTW confirmation. In other words, if you are trying to save money by
submitting as many QSL cards as possible, and thus as few LoTW
confirmations as possible, this method isn't for you.

There are two ways to do this: the systematic way, or the brute-force way.

Systematic way:

1. Perform a DXCC submission through the ARRL Logbook of the World
web site. This will submit all of your electronic confirmations.

2. Manually change the correspond DXCC award flags to Submitted for
each credit submitted through the LoTW web site. After this is done,
it is a good time to save your DX4WIN log.

3. Perform a DXCC submission in DX4WIN, via the Reports menu. You
can save or print the submission report, but you really don't need it.

(continue at #4 below)

Brute-force way:

1. Perform a DXCC submission through the ARRL Logbook of the World
web site. This will submit all of your electronic confirmations.

2. Perform a DXCC submission in DX4WIN, via the Reports menu. You
can save or print the submission report, but you really don't need it.

3. Adjust the DXCC award flags so that the same QSOs that were
submitted for credit via LoTW are marked as Submitted in DX4WIN. This
may mean that some QSOs confirmed by paper QSL no longer need to be
marked as Submitted.

At this point, all of the confirmations you want to submit will be
marked as Submitted in DX4WIN. Now you want to identify those for
which you need to submit QSL cards.

4. Depending on the type of DXCC credits you will be submitting, you
may need to create up to three ADIF files - one for DXCC Mixed, one
for DXCC Mode, and/or for DXCC band. Make sure your QSO window is
expanded to show the Award flags (use F5 until you see them).

4a. For DXCC Mixed submissions, perform an F8 search. You will want
to search for 'Y' in the Cnfm field on the line that starts with
Label, 'N' in the Cnfm field on the line that starts with LoTW,
and 'S' in the Award flags in the DXCC column, Mixed row. If the
search reports No matching QSO found, then continue on to step 4b
below.

Otherwise, in the main DX4WIN menu, File | Import/Export. You should
see the Import/Export Filters window, and the ADIF row should be
highlighted. In this window, choose File | Export from the menu.
DX4WIN will ask if you want to use the current filter. Answer Yes.
Save the resulting ADIF file to something like 2012_MIXED.adi.

4b. For DXCC Band submissions, perform an F8 search. You will want
to search for 'Y' in the Cnfm field on the line that starts with

way to
do this.

I don't know of a good way to do this. I worked five new countries
for the year (CQ Marathon) in the recent CQWW CW contest, but I can't
identify three of them without resorting to some crazy searches
outside DX4WIN, which I'm too lazy to do. I just wanted to know out
of curiosity more than anything else. The only ones I do know are 5H
(new all-time from Colorado) and EL, which I knew I wouldn't work
before the contest. I had already worked 7P and 5T earlier in the
year, so I know those weren't it.

[Dx4win] QR-Code

2012-07-26 Thread PY2YP
On behalf of the author, PY1KN, a suggestion that should be considered
to the wish list.

73 de PY2YP - Cesar

Automated QSL reading -- a suggestion for software developers

Marcelo Gomes -- PY1KN

ARRL's LOTW is a great thing, saving a lot of work for managers of large
dx-peditions or big contest stations, as well as active Dxers.

However, paper QSL cards are not going to disappear anytime soon.

Whenever I receive a bunch of QSL cards from the bureau, I have to
manually enter the other station callsign in my logging software and
look for matches in my logbook. Then I can take appropriate action,
marking the QSO as confirmed and marking a QSL for printing.

If you receive a large batch it can take many hours. There must be a
better way.

Nowadays QR-codes have become ubiquitous, as its an easy way to create
free format machine readable information.

So, if in addition to the traditional QSO data lines e can add a QR code
with the same information, the logging software could decode and search
for matches and take appropriate action.

The best solution would be to set a standard way to write the QSO data.
I´ve made a simple test, writing 5 QSOs with W1AW, using ; as field
separator according to the following pattern:

Callsign

mmdd ;hh:mm; Mhz; band; mode; RS(T); QSL

A sample 5-QSO data in this format would look like

W1AW

20120130;00:10;21.025;15M;CW;599;PSE

20120131;01:22;14.185;20M;SSB;59;PSE

20120317;22:12;10.145;30M;RTTY;599;TKS

20120401;10:00;;12M;PSK31;599;PSE

20120718;23:18;7.023;40M;CW;599;PSE

Note that the 4^th QSO has no frequency info, just the band. In this
case the blank fiels results in 2 adjacent separators (;;)

The resulting QR-Code image is example would be:

This image could be added to my outgoing QSL to W1AW. A QSL printing
service like GlobalQSL could generate it automatically from the QSO data
uploaded and print it directly in the card.

The printing routines of the logging programs could include the option
to print it on a blank space of the card, or on a label,

A QR-image can hold up to 255 characters, if we consider typical line
with the formatting I used as holding 36 characters, there is space to
easily fit 8 QSOs in the image. I have tried to use a leaner format,
eliminating the frequency information, the hour-minute separator (:),
the M abbreviation in the band and use only P or T for QSL status, link
the example below, but the gain is not relevant, especially if we
consider that plain text information also has to appear in the card. In
practice, we don't see more than 7 QSO lines in a card.

WIAW

20120401;1000;160;RTTY;599;P

(example of more condensed formatting)

The first software developer who jumps into this will set the standard.
Maybe we don't need the frequency information, maybe we can just write P
or T for the QSL PSE or TKS.

Time will tell if this idea evolves.

Better support for single awards, like only Mixed or only 20M

I know the Perl libraries have some issues with Daylight Savings Time.
I thought I had fixed this last fall, but apparently not. It may not
be fully fixable without re-writing the program using a Microsoft

Maybe the fix is something like if the file on the web sit differs
*MORE* than one hour from the file on the computer, then it needs
updating. I hadn't thought of this as a possible solution until
right now. This means if I release updates, they must be more then
one hour apart. I think I can live with this restriction.

[Dx4win] Opening CSV file

2012-01-23 Thread PY2YP
Referring to my previous post, the problem:
- When opening any CSV file generated by the DX4WIN, the FR/J Juan de
Nova; Europe row was left blank, e.g. the data mysteriously disappeared.
- Jim found out what was causing the problem: it was the semicolon ;
between Nova and Europe. Somehow the Excel truncated the rest of the
line when changing text to columns. Of course this was not a DX4WIN problem.

The solution: open the CSV with the Windows Notepad, put around the
country name, select all (CTL-A) then past (CTL-V) into the spreadsheet.

It might be a good idea if the DX4WIN put around the country name as
shown here: Juan de Nova; Europe. May I include this into the wish list?

Thank you for the help Jim.

2012-01-21 Thread PY2YP
Thank you. So the question now is: When we will have the next version?
Paul, could you please provide us a hint?

No. But on the wish-list for next release. Probably the most

I think the XML issue has already discussed, however, I have to ask: Is
it possible to access QRZ XML database using DX4WIN?

I'd like to have this feature too, should be a nice improvement.

There are several places where I can select my band preferences and modes of
operation so the unused choices do not get in the way of my particular
operating bands and modes. It minimizes wasted time and mistakes. So under
STATION PREFERENCES, I can select the bands and modes I use. Also in PACKET
 3.

But in the ENTRY WINDOW, I have to go through all the possible bands and
modes when again I need to narrow them down to what I use in my particular
operation. Did I miss the place where I can select my particular operating
bands and modes, and not have the others in the way, in the entry window?.
There are 38 modes to select from and 22 bands there

How can I have only my bands and modes to show in the entry window to speed
 up the entry of contacts?
