[Dx4win] 7.03 time problem

2007-12-18 Thread Garry Shapiro
Paul:

Apparently, yes! In all the years I have used DX4WIN, I did not know
that option existed in Preferences/QSO, and never knowingly checked the
box---but checked it was. Thanks for solving the mystery! Out of
curiosity, who might use that option?

Offline, but encountered a difficulty in the time entry I had not
 previously observed.

I cannot change the time on that QSO. Not only that, after
double-clicking on any other QSO in the log, it shows a different
time in the log entry window than in the log window.

When I say I cannot change the time, I mean that, when entering the
last of the four digits, another colon appears and the time reverts
to whatever it wanted to be in the first place.

I closed and reopened DX4WIN, and even rebooted the PC. No
difference. What is going on? Do I have to reinstall DX4WIN 7.03?

Hi Garry, and the Reflector...

I cannot change the time on that QSO. Not only that, after
double-clicking on any other QSO in the log, it shows a different time in
the log entry window than in the log window.

When I say I cannot change the time, I mean that, when entering the last

Have you checked Show seconds in time? (Main menu Preferences QSO)
If yes, try unchecking it.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.03 is running on Windows Vista

That's not quite what I said. The FIRST time, in order to copy the
virtual driver for the parallel port (vichw11.sys), you have to run
DX4WIN as Administrator. After this file has been copied, you can run
DX4WIN using your normal user account. At least that is the way it
works for me.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.03 is running on Windows Vista

2007-08-07 Thread Alan Zack
Thanks for the info, Jim. I am about to purchase a new PC and
they all come with Vista pre-installed nowadays. I was wondering
if DX4WIN would work on the Vista OS or if I would only be able
to use it on my present WINXP based PC I am now using (and will
keep using for ham applications only)

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.03 is running on Windows Vista

Hi Folks,

Late last week, I received my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate
64-bit and I
installed it this weekend. I purchased the OEM version (for
installation on a
new machine) instead of trying to upgrade my existing Windows XP
installation.
I was curious how my existing programs would work with it. Note
that while
Windows XP came on a CD (~ 650 MB), Vista comes on a DVD (~ 4.7
GB). But I
digress...

I have a homebrew computer with an Intel Core 2 Quad processor
(Q6600), 4GB of
RAM, an NVIDIA 8600 GTS video card and a Creative Audigy 4 sound
card. Another
reason for wanting to try Vista was that 32-bit operating systems
can't see all
of that 4GB of memory. Even though they support a 32-bit (4GB)
address space,
some of that address space is taken up by hardware. The
motherboard/BIOS has
the capability to remap that 4th GB of memory above the 32-bit
address space,
but older operating systems still can't see/use it.

Anyway, the installation of Vista went fine, and I was fortunate
that my
wireless networking device, video and sound cards all had
downloadable 64-bit
Vista drivers. I was especially worried about the wireless
networking, since
everything else kind of depended on my having a network! I still
have a few
driver issues but no show-stoppers.

As far as software, my main applications like Eudora Mail and
Quicken are OK.
I can no longer install my Microsoft Visual .NET software, it's
too old (2002).
I downloaded a free express version of Visual C++ from
Microsoft, but I am
having some trouble converting my existing projects (file
permission problems
mostly). Also, my Unix-like Cygwin environment is a little
unstable, this is
the environment I use to maintain the country files, etc.

Having said all this, I was able to get DX4WIN 7.03 installed and
running. I
installed the program as a user (myself). Every time I started
the program, I
got a warning about the vichw11 driver. So I ran DX4WIN as an
Administrator
instead (right-click on the program icon and choose Run as
Administrator) and
it was able to copy that driver into the Vista driver directory.
Now the
program starts without errors (even as a user).

I can manipulate my log and connect to packet (Telnet). I can't
test radios or
other interfaces because I am currently off-the-air. Also, I
don't have any
real COM ports, just a microHAM (USB) interface, which does not
have Vista
driver support (yet).

Vista does not seem any slower or faster than Windows XP, even
though I'm
running the fancy Aero graphics desktop. Some things are in a
different
place, Add/Remove Programs is now just Programs something.
User Account
Control (which warns you when installing/running/uninstalling
programs) is a
little annoying, but no so much that I need to turn it off. I'd
say the
biggest problems are driver and application support. Some
program icons just
disappear out of the system notification area on the taskbar.
It's not always
obvious whether the program is still running or not. I hope most
of these
issues are resolved in the coming year. Intel is slowly killing
off their
32-bit processors, so software developers will have to move into
the 21st
century sooner or later.

I hope this report helps someone. I'm happy to try to answer
(non-hardware-specific) Vista questions off-reflector.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.03 hesitation/stuttering

2007-07-30 Thread Jerry.Van
I have noticed some stuttering and hesitation when using WIN's message
buffers for CW and RTTY. Messages being played out are sometimes
delayed for a second or two before starting or messages are being broken
up or hesitating when playing out. This is quite annoying, of course,
in a contest situation and leads to repeats being called for. This
problem was mentioned sometime back and prior to release 7.03 but I
don't think there was a definitive answer given. It seems to me that
WIN or Windows XP might be giving priority to other tasks but when a
message is being played out that task should have relatively high
priority. I realize there might be better choices for a contesting
logging program but when WIN is used for contesting in a less serious
way surely there must be a way to stop all of the hesitation and
stuttering. Is there a solution?

Hi Jerry,
What version are you running ?
I run DX4WIN 7.0.3.16 and there is no hesitation
At all, not in CW or RTTY(MMTTY)
Perhaps you have a radio connected where the polling is to
Quickly or the response to slow.

Hi Folks,

I plan to release updates to the following DX4WIN data files this weekend
(probably Sunday):

   - DX4WIN.AWD (awards database)
   - DX4WIN.CTY (country file)
   - DX4WIN.TCP (DX cluster nodes)

If you know of any changes that need to be made to the awards database, and you
have not already sent them to me, please let me know as soon as possible. I
don't remember what's in my queue, but there will be an update for the Canadian
Islands Award (CISA).

I am going to try to release two versions of the DX4WIN.TCP file:

   - one that has keep alive turned on
   - one that does not have keep alive (same as current version)

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.03 and digital modes

2007-07-29 Thread Endorf Family
Hello,
I am working through setup of a DX4WIN 7.03 upgrade. In PSK31 window,
messages 1 through 6 will xmit (output to radio), and messages 7 and 8 will
not. Also Control key message 1 works OK , and messages 2 through 8 do not.
All of the messages show in the transmit buffer screen, just nothing comes
out of the radio for those particular keys.

The same occurs in the MMTTY window. The same keys work, and same keys do
not work.

Any help is appreciated.

I found it - it's in the label editor, the font was set to Arial. So what
exactly *does* the Font selection in the Rep/lab preference do?

A couple more questions:

- how do I make unconfirmed QSOs print PSE QSL and confirmed QSOs print TKS
QSL on the label? There are three blank lines under Greeting in the Rep/lab
preferences, but they are otherwise unidentified.

- how do I get rid of the Verified and printed by DX4WIN tag line on the

Hi Reno, and anyone else..
YOU WROTE:
Neil, the rig file V8-i in the latest version of DX4WIN, V7.03 seems
to work very well. It appears to correct the faults that many of us
have found and lived with. It sets the correct modes now in both
vfo's, sets splits and enables the VFO-B to xmit and picks up the vfo-
B xmit frequency and sents it to the packetcluster when you send a
spot out.
I have tried it with both V7.03 and V7.02 versions of DX4Win.

PLEASE DO THIS LITTLE TEST BELOW
Dx4win 7.03.16 rig file V8-i
Would you please try this so I won't think I am nuts.
To be honest I HOPE I AM nuts.

Click QSO add real time
enter a call TE1ST use A=14080 qsx B=14090 and mode RTTY
press split button TX on VFO B

Now in DX4WIN do a ANN DX or a ALT+A

Look at the FREQand QSX FREQ
ARE THEY REVERSED??

My ANN DX will reverse the A and B VFO freqs.

VFO A on radio is 14080 but the ANN DX window showes FREQ 14090 and
the QSX freq should be VFO B on radio as 14090 but the QSX freq showes in the
ANN DX window 14080.

This NEW rig file is a HUGE/big improvement on setting MODES from the SPOT
window. SPLIT, SETS, MODE, ETC ALL LOOK GOOD NOW.

I believe they are aware of the issue I just asked you to test.

On the first line, mine says:

The @@ gets changed to Tnx QSL/Pse QSL automagically, and the

[Dx4win] 7.03

2007-05-09 Thread Ernie Walls
I have just started to change from 7.02.to 7.03.

I do not upgrade per se - I install 7.03 in parallel with 7.02, copy all
relevant files over, make sure everything agrees, save what I want, and
delete the rest.

As yet, no changeover.

But, I have one problem!

7.02 recognises CY0AA as Sable for me, but 7.03 simply will not - the
net result is that I show one less country confirmed in 7.03, than I do
in 7.02, with exactly the same log in both versions. And yes. I checked
that the QSO is actually still in both.

Can anyone advise what the problem may be? And a fix.

Never ever had an upgrade problem prior to this one. Still using XP, and
in no hurry to change.

Thanks.
