Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater v. 9.1 released

2017-02-14 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
I found the problem with the DX4WIN Data Updater. This problem is in
both version 9.0 and 9.1

The symptom is this:

1. The Updater prompts you to update the program.
2. You answer YES.
3. The main Updater screen appears, at which point you probably
Update (what you do here does not matter)
4. The next time you run the Update program, the program is no longer there

There are two ways to avoid the problem:

1. When the Updater prompts you to update itself, answer NO (each
time). Keep using the old version.

2. Install 9.1 as a new installation, over-top of 9.0. You'll get
the new version, and it *should not* ask you to update.

The software fix is embarrassingly simple. I was checking the status
of moving the current Updater program to a backup name, but I checked
the status wrong. I was checking for non-zero meaning failure, but
instead should have checked for zero to mean failure. It is a
one-character fix in the software! I should have tested this. I was
sure I had, but obviously I missed something.

I will try to release version 9.2 on Feb 15 (UTC) to fix this problem.
You'll have to do a re-install of this version, then the problem
should be gone.

There is something wrong with the update process. It prompts you to
update, but it's not downloading. This causes you to get in an update
loop.

Either install 9.1 from scratch, or answer NO when it asks if you want
to update.

I don't have time to fix this now, will look at in in the next day or two.

Sorry for the problems. I should have tested this first.,
