They say that confession is good for the soul so perhaps I should detail my
foolish mistake.
I looked at the RFa bag bandolier, not too closely it turns out, and decided
that it wasn't carrying any 1/2 watt resistors. Not being able to find any
loose ones I counted up the number of resistors
I used to notice that when I was tuning in 1Khz steps my frequency used to
always end up about 30khz or 50khz higher. So from tuning say from 5050.00 to
7070.00 using the 1Khz tuning rate the fine tune frequency read at would be
7070.03 or 7070.05.
Anyway, I did the recalibration of my K2
Bon jour Jean- Francois,
Congratulations on getting your K2 on SSB. Now you can check into the
Trans Provincial Net on 7.055 mcs.and we can listen for your K2.
Now, you must build the KPA100 to really get a big signal on the air,
believe me you will not be sorry.
I find that on SSB you really
In my opinion, one of the most effective antennas I have used is a rotatable
trap dipole such as the Cushcraft D3, D3W and D4. I have used them all.
Advantages: Single support, easier to get up at a reasonable height than a
dipole and no drooping ends as in inverted V. They are a bit pricey, but
Thanks everyone. KX1 #463 with all options has been sold.

Look at the last two resistors on the Bandolier. That is where mine
were on #4248.

The initial re-tightening seems to be all that is required.
I believe the thermal pads will slightly thinner after an initial period of
being exposed to the pressure from the initial tightening and that normal
'squeezing' process may be shortened by the thermal cycling. I have not
been able to
Hi Kevin,
Hope your fireworks display was as enjoyable as expected. We don't
celebrate the 4th. of July on account of celebrating the 1st. of July up

the same week you know. Besides it would be unpatriotic.
For our
Dave,
From my observations, if the lower order digits on the frequency display are
different than .00 when you switch to 1kHz tuning steps, those
undisplayed digits will stay the same as they were. - in other words, if you
were tuned to 7070.35 and go to the 1 kHz tuning the steps will be to

That reminds me...I worked SP7AID and OK1CF last night on 20m phone

The other day I was using my K2 on 40 meters. I was having a nice QSO and the

there were other loud signals on the band. But, the audio gain was wide open.
The RF gain was wide ipen as well. I made sure I had the

Lee,
Maybe a latent bad solder joint? How about the speaker mounting screws
being overly tight?
A couple of the obvious things to check.

This is basically a center fed ZEPP. When I was at T30NN and 3D2NN I used a
center fed ZEPP which consisted of a 44 foot piece of 300 ohm TV lead-in for
the feed line and the horizontal parts were stranded #18 wire each side being
23 feet. Using the K2/100 and KAT100 this antenna tuned
Joe and all,
That is my favorite portable antenna too. In a pinch you don't need 3
supports, 1 will do to hold up the center. The 2 antenna wires and the
feedline CAN also be used as part of the guys to hold the center pole
upright and you have an inverted VEE - OR with one half of the antenna
You are right Don. However, this did not happen with my radio before. But
if I fine tune to .33 and tune to another frequency using the 1khz
tuning rate and have a look at my fine tune frequency the .33 holds.
This did not happen with my K2 when it wasn't calibrated properly.
Successfully completed: Alignment and Test, Part II. All within spec.
What fun, watching everything come up with the right numbers.

Well, I didn't do much else over the long weekend. Ran the wood chipper
this afternoon and so I'm too tired to mount the speaker. I'll have to
find my wirestrippers and who needs to do that at 10PM?
Other than that, it went together pretty easily.
Now, what order do I put together the SSB, 60M

I'm still trying to decide in which order to build the SSB and the
KPA100. I figure I should do the KPA100 first, because 15W isn't much on
SSB, but then I also figure I could
