If the worry is about circuit damage due to static on the antenna, why not
replace RFC10 with a suitable high value resistor ?

Hi Mike
Don,W3FPR just gave you very good tips to look at your problem.
Another one may be the BFO frequency not in place in respect of the filter
bandpass.
Look in the technical part of the filter alignment and see if your BFO
frequency follow (at some 10th of Hz) the values given in the

Hi Jozef WB2MIC,
I have checked my K1 (#2294 Christmas 2006) and notice the same effect. There
is a very faint glimmer on the ATTN LED when 'Batt monitor' is selected. It
would probably have gone unnoticed. I presume you work in low light conditions.
I wonder if other K1 owners notice the
Thanks for all of the good advice! The readers and contributers to this

discovered the problem, and it is rather simple. For some reason I had

Yes. My shack does have a low light environment. I was through direct
email by two list users that this very slight flicker is normal as there
is data that is shared on the line. It's not a problem. I was curious.

Just email [EMAIL PROTECTED] and let them know the E Number, kit, and
description of the core. They will mail one out right away.
Just work on other stuff until it arrives. These kits are addicting, but you
have to force yourself to wait! ;)

There is no known problem for using the K2 with any of the soundcard
interfaces as far as I know. Most interface boxes allow for configuring
to the proper microphone cabling (even if they offer special cables).
And the K2 can be configured to use most any microphone wiring scheme.

Mike,
Glad you found the problem source and corrected it. Yup - the IF filter
will not work with those varactors backwards! I don't know how you had
any receiver function at Alignment and Test Part II if those were
installed backwards.

The good news is that digital modes do not require a lot of power. I
worked Israel on 50w, and Seattle of 15w from the east coast of
Virginia. You can an additional fan, I believe Tom shows it on his page.

I guarantee that it does. But *only* while the LCD is displaying the battery

Hello Karsten!
Do not worry, your S-meter is behaving normally. Here is what is happing.
The RF gain in your K2 is controlled by a d-c voltage. This voltage may come
from the RF Gain control or it may come from the Automatic Gain Control
(AGC) circuit.
When you have the AGC on and the RF Gain

Hello
I haven't had my K2 (# 5846 ) long enought to fully understand all
the different settings that are possible with it , so I have a
question.
My CW filter setting are FL-1 1.50, FL-2 0.70, FL-3 0.40, and
FL-4 is 0.10. Even FL-4 is no where near as effective as the 250 hz
crystal filter in my
I can't speak about the 718 or the Elecraft DSP, but in my experience such
brick wall filtering creates far more problems than solutions. A huge
amount of unwanted stuff is produced by signals on the sharp edges of such a
filter that appear throughout the passband - much of it is that 'noise' you
My K2 is working fine and I'm still learning about its capabilities. I

If I understand correctly the receive antenna port which it provides is
protected during transmit (QSK) just as the ANT1/2 ports.
Is that correct?

Jim,
That is correct - and you can confirm from the schematic if you like.
The receive antenna is connected on the same side of the T-R switch as
the PA transistor output. (the receive antenna is injected at the same
place the W1 jumper is placed in a K2 without the K160RX option.)
