Channel hopping doesn't seem to offer anything useful to me. It would
have been nice if rotating VFO A not only displayed the frequency stored
but instantly assigned it to a VFO so the K3 could be used in the same
manner as a crystal controlled transceiver (without having to press M-V
again).
I have just started to notice a click and a very small jump in frequency every
5 kHz on my K2. For example I find it on 30M:
10105.78
10110.78
10115.78
10120.87 (etc)
on 40M it appears:
7034.3
7029.93
7024.93 (etc)
Is this something that has always been there which I have just noticed ? I can
Hello Jean,

The way the K3 behave seems absolutely normal. You cannot have your cake

To be able to send CW while in SSB the rig has to be in VOX mode.
When PTT is engaged you must first press the PTT to transmit and if the
rig is in SSB
I took K2 #609 to ZS6 just after 9/11. Total panic at the airport - no hand

those so eventually they accepted regular supermart bags from the duty-free
store. I wrapped the K2 in a newspaper. It survived the trip and

Hallo,
Mr. Norm K9NK has adviced me to sign this reflector in reason to purchase
K2.
It would have at least optional modules KSB2, KNB2, KDSP2, KIO2. Any other
modules as K160RX, KPA100, etc is possible as well.
Thanks in advance,

Our K2 appears inordinately sensitive to radiation from my GSM phone.
It occurs with the audio gain turned all the way down so it appears
that this problem might be with the audio amp stage. Have others
experienced this and, if so, has anyone come up with a fix?

Yes, same thing here. It doesn't do it with the K3 at all however. I'm
sure it's breakthrough directly into the audio stages. It's never bothered
me too much as most of the time my cellphone is in the car or in a jacket
pocket somewhere. Some judicious decoupling somewhere would no doubt help.
Nick:
1) Install the most recent version (1.1.6.3) of the K3 Utility from the
Elecraft web site's K3 software page.
2) Start the K3 Utility, and navigate to the Firmware Tab.
3) Click the Send All Firmware to K3 button. This is a new button
introduced in the latest version of the K3 Utility.

The Terminal feature on the utility would make a nice CW keyboard but

Brian,
I have heard another report of this noise, but no analysis of the
effect. Yes, the fact that the level does not depend on your audio gain
setting indicates that it is confined to the AF Amplifier.
Note that the K2 uses the LM380N BYPASS pin (8) for sidetone input.
Normally, the
Nick,
First, check RFC15 on the bottom of the RF Board to see if it is open -
check it with an ohmmeter, the voltage will read 5 volts on both sides
of the inductor even if it is open.
Once you have determined that RFC15 is not the problem, do CAL PLL again
- be certain the bottom cover is

Hi,
As I can only just (sometimes) tell that I have an increase in
noise level on 6m when I connect the antenna, I have decided to
add a preamp.
Rather than wait for the Elecraft design, I will build my own.
I am wondering what is the most convenient way of automatically
switching the preamp
No, they haven't been eliminated, Mike. The bushings should be there. They
hold the board vertical behind the rear panel.
Drop a note to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and they'll fix it for you.

Finally found time for an update (this one, 2.02), and the gain
discrepancy between the FIR and IIR filters seems to have gone away
somewhere in the recent flurry of releases - at least in this version
I can't detect any difference moving between 150 and 100 Hz filters

Hi,
Unless I'm misunderstanding something it works here.
SSB - PTT mode, press paddle whilst in RX results in CW with RF output.
Interestingly this happens even if true CW mode is not set to VOX.

Your description says the very same thing as I did ... mic wires
floating with the shield connected directly to the chassis.
I'm not ambiguous, you are! :) PTT ground is ambiguous,
and implies that it goes somewhere and eventually finds the
chassis. I'm talking the CHASSIS. Period.
I searched the archives and find very little on the PF keys. The
programmer's reference doesn't seem to shed much light on them. The owner's
manual says that they (and the M1-4 keys) can be used to store config:
items.
My question: can/will these keys be used to store macros of K3 commands?
Mike,
you are right...
When you have SSB + CW active (menu:CW WGHT press 1) there is now no
conncetion between PTT/VOX mode for CW and CW sending in SSB mode.
(as it was in previous versions as I remember)
