About a year ago when I was using my K3, K144XV and P3 combination I went
through most of the suggestions you have received . The noise floor was
reduced to almost satisfactory levels, but not quite.
Two further things occur to me: The DC cable to the P3 is just over a
quarter wave

I am sorry to have bothered you good people. One uses FSK D not AFSK A
when using the internal facilities of the K3 to generate RTTY.

Andy,
It all depends on the software application are you using for RTTY? You
are using MMTTY which displays the frequency the K2 is tuned to (without
the audio offset considered).
With the RTTY filters, just like the SSB filters, the K2 dial indicates
the suppressed carrier frequency, and
The K3's internal encoder works in data modes FSK-D and PSK-D only. See K3

Receive-only Text Decode is available in AFSK-A, but the KY command used for

Doug,
When using the K3 Utility or any terminal program the K3 must be in
FSK-D. If you use AFSK you must use a sound card program.

Just a little advertising for the best station accessory I have ever bought.
Without the frequency domain analysis we would be hard pressed to discover what
this is. A picture is worth a thousand words.

The detailed explanation fills in a key missing detail that I'd not seen
printed anywhere before.
NCCC's Fred Jensen , thank you for the following:
To save your particular settings to a preset, set I/II [your choice] by
HOLDING the knob, and set the radio up as you wish. They're
Dave W8FGU, who's known by many Elecrafters for his
Plexiglas housings for the Elecraft Mini-Modules is looking
at making a Plexiglas protective front cover for the KX3.
It's a natural for Dave's fabrication skills.
Stay tuned for more information...

Just a hunch, but if you have a KCR2, make sure it is powered if it is
connected to the AUX port. A couple of weeks ago, I had unplugged the
power cable form the KCR2, and when the rig was powered on, it hung and
did all sorts of odd things, including not powering off in response to
the K3 front
Try unplugging all AUX and RS-232 cables from the back of the K3. I've
had computer programs that were accessing the K3 'hang' and then you
couldn't manipulate the menu system from the front panel, until I
unplugged the offending cable(s).
Resetting whatever external box/computer is misbehaving
Hello!
This will probably be my final email update, since I leave next Monday, February 18.
I am really encouraged by the number of stations who have been expanding their 6m
stations and getting on JT65A to have a go at me via EME! Of course, the bigger
antennas and amplifiers will be very

I think the NORM's remember your roofing filter settings as well as the
DSP when you do the - SAV - drill. As I said, I haven't really used
them
Last night I cleaned all mating metal surfaces in the P3 but, alas, this made
no difference. The noise was still at S6.
When I had the I/O printed circuit board out of the case, I noticed that the
earth planes for the power supply section and RS232 section are separated by a
zig zag gap. They
Hi All,
This month I am celebrating my fifth anniversary with my K3. It has performed
flawlessly over this time …without a hiccup. My K3 was purchased without the
KBPF3 option in 2008.
Like many of you, I started my radio adventures in 1962 at the age of 12 as an
avid SWL. I recently have
Dave,
Since SW Broadcast signals are subject to fading, I would suggest you
add the KBPF3 to both the main and the subRX to give you the capability
of diversity reception. If you only want to purchase one, I suggest
that putting it in the main RX would make operation more straightforward
I have been tracking the recent comments on RX attentuation when the KPA500
goes from Standby to Operate as I am experiencing the same issue when on
80M. I can see the signal level difference displayed on my P3, and can hear
it as well. However, by contrast, I'm not really detecting it when on
Just a report that I used the pre beta low bandwidth fsk software on both k3s
during the
WPX RTTY contest. Made over 1900 low power contacts, with no apparent problems
(As expected). As close as some stations felt comfortable operating next to
me, it looks
like it helps.

Hi
sometimes, not often, I had a problem to turn on my KX3.
Pushing - as usual - BAND ATU/TUNE - the 3 LEDs flash on (TX, f and B) -
but if I release the BAND ATU/TUNE buttons, the TRX remains so. No start.
I can now push any button, no reaction...
Turning extern power off and on again,
Hi Klaus,
Did you check all cells separately to see if all of them are well charged?
It looks as if during startup the supply voltage drops to a level that
locks up the KX3. You could try to measure the battery voltage when
turning the KX3 on.
