For those of us using low noise preamps, they typically lower dynamic
range, anyway. I recommend a preamp for working non-FM modes as one
is not benefiting from repeaters in high places. The same goes for
using the 2m module as IF for higher frequency transverters (i.e microwaves).

Dale,
I like and use a SignaLink USB and like it. However, almost any of the popular
interfaces will work. Or, you could just use the mic and headphone connectors
on your PC and run cables to the mic and headphone connectors on the KX3. That
can work also.

G'day all,
I am thinking of using my KX3 for digital work and also running it through

What is a good interface unit, maybe Digalink or Omnirig?
What is the best way to connect to a laptop to use HRD?
Suggestions please!

I had a lot of trouble until I put a ground-loop isolator between the KX3

Hello Tom.
I have had success with using several SDR software programs (and sound cards)
with my KX3. It shouldn't be that hard. I've used Rocky, hDSDR, a few
variants of PowersDR, SDRsharp, and a few others, on various Windows and Apple

Well I just bought a new outboard sound card and removed all previous cards.
I'm now running an emu2020 and I can adjust the levels between the channels. I
can minimize the images but as soon as you move up or down a while the images

Thanks to all who replied, Mike K2MK got me going. For the record for

Guys,
The one that really works well is NaP3. It was originally set up
for the K3, but the latest iteration does a great job on the KX3. I've
been running with the software for about a year or so, and I now don't
know how function without it.

Has anyone tried to hook up their kx3 via the IQ output to SDR software?
I have so far tried three different programs, hdsdr, sdr-radio, and SDR sharp,

Hi Fred,
You probably mean you use AFSK A for RTTY. For JT65-HF you want DATA A. LINE
IN is correct and MIC+LIN off is correct although I suspect the K3
automatically turns MIC+LIN off in any of the data modes.
I use VOX for all data modes. Never had a problem.

2. What's the best way to key the K3? On RTTY, N1MM/MMTTY key the

WSJT-X can key via software command, RTS or DTR *on a separate port

Hi Fred,
Thanks for the pointer. Yes, I had it set to 1500 watts
Your suggestion got me thinking along similar lines and I checked out my

default I presume) to a very high value, so the amp PTT was never interrupted
Hi Gary,
Have you set the KAT500 Amplifier Key Interrupt Power configuration? The KPA is
delivered with that set at 29 watts so if the tuner sees more than 29 watts it
won't open the keying line. You have to set that parameter in the KAT500
configuration to "Optimize for Elecraft KPA500".

Thanks for the update Wayne,
For myself the main use will be to interface to a 24GHz to 144MHz

Hi Dave,
The KX3-2M module occupies less than one cubic inch -- that's about 1/15th the
space occupied by the K144XV, the 2-m module used in the K3. Given this, we had
to make some design tradeoffs. The KX2-2M's sensitivity is nearly as good as
the K144XV's, but the latter has higher power outp
