It should work fine. I was able to get about 100W out of a Drake L-75.
Just tune the plate and load controls for maximum RF output. (There's
not much point in trying to dip the plate current. Since almost all the
current is resting current, you don't see much of a dip.)

Your questions are valid. I asked the same ones myself. I'm also disappointed
in the charger. I also found that it is very fussy about input voltage. I run
my 12v rigs in my shack off deep cycle marine batteries which I keep topped off
with a high end marine smart charger (ironic!) When the
passband. ESSB in the K3 uses the 6 kHz AM filter
so the passband edges are well away from the 2.5 kHz voice band. It
should have much flatter phase response.
I should do some double-blind A/B testing to compare ESSB versus
non-ESSB and see for sure if it really makes a difference.

The SteppIR Y cable should go between the P3 and the computer. It
theoretically should still work if it is on the K3 side, but it works

Yes, I had the same issue. You can reduce it if you go into the menu and set
AGC*THR to 5 (or 4). 4 will totally eliminate the distortion but will reduce
the maximum volume the radio will produce. For me, (I'm going to say it) the
wimpy audio amplifier is a big disappointment. As you have

I normally don't enter into these conversations, but I will this time. I have
found the perfect solution for me. I do a lot of building of Elecraft kits.
The amplifier for a K2 requires two power supplies in the testing stage. I
have two Astron VS-35M supplies. Between them I have enough
believe. It is also true that there are some pitfalls with
using it that can trap the unwary. But with proper design it can be
made to work just fine.

Not having the schematics in front of me and not being familiar with the
unit...PCB traces don't usually burn on their own. Did Q4 check as good? Might
be worth some desoldering to put an ohmmeter on it.
