That's a good resource but it doesn't tell the whole story. An amplifier
will give you around 10 db improvement in signal on the other end. That's
more than the difference between a dipole and a five element monobander. As
little
issues in general, but that is also based on quality. Shielding
means nothing unless properly terminated on both ends and the quality of the
shielding and termination as well (look at the Coax we use to learn much
about shielding... another science in its own right).

Guy,
I'll bet the guitar and a few fine beers do the trick for Wayne. I don't
know what Eric does, he probably uses the lab K2500 test amp to take out his
frustration.

Alan,
I have the SmallIR and will confirm what a wonderful experience it is to
use. We get what we pay for. The quality is excellent. I will save these
directions for future use. Right now I don't have the interface in the
original Steppir controller.

Bill,
Add the K3 Util to the exceptions/allowed list in your AV program. You can
try Microsoft Security Essentials which is a free MS program which does very
well. This is a problem that should not be. What is you AV program?

Hi Bill,
These are just csh or bash commands
I have sent in my FT radio so I cannot give you my settings. I find the
latest update for CW decode to be the best yet. I do narrow my filter. I
also use the decode to improve my copy speed and was easily in the 20WPM +
speed. I send around 15+ with the KXPD3.

Ron,
I have one and love it. Before I bought it I had built the Xg2 and found it
very helpful in calibrating equipment, not just my Elecraft stuff. The XG3
is a great tool for the Kx3 but not a kit. The XG2 is.

I fired up the K3 for the recent Vhf contest. I have the preamp installed.
I used the SmallIR at 3/4 wave with only 11 radials running 100 watts. I
worked to east coast stations Q5 both ends. SWR was 3.2:1 as I need to add
more radials. It was a pleasure.

Or, just send the unit to Don, who is very good at fixing K2's. He goes way
back to the beginning of the Elecraft startup K2 FT group and does repairs.
If I needed mine repaired and couldn't fix it myself, I would send it to
him.
