[Elecraft] Our beloved knobs

2009-05-13 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
An idea which is not expensive, but very nice. I like my radio tuning knob to feel soft, warm and the key to the world. Well, I discovered Ten-Tec has a soft rubber ring which slides over the K3 knob in 10 seconds and nothing needs to be done to the K3 knob. These soft rubber knob covers come

[Elecraft] I'm glad!

2009-04-19 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
I'm glad to have both the K3 and Orion, not to be tacky. Orion for weak CW DXing and the K3 for all the digital modes with MixW, 6 meters and back-up. SSB, what little I do is a split. The K2 for QRP DXing is a keeper for the past 8+ years. The FT-450 is an outstanding rig too. BTW, some

[Elecraft] The QRP Challenge!

2009-03-05 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
I have enjoyed very much all the comments on the subject of QRP and the rigs (Wayne mentioned), K1s, K2s, K3s. etc. There are others of course and bet many started with that 6L6 and thought it was the most powerful station on earth. Many of us old timers are reliving and with the good

Re: [Elecraft] I think its time for me to apologize to the group.

2009-03-05 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
Duane, I too responded and thought it was a good subject since Elecraft has been one of the leaders in recent times for lower power technology and equipment. QRP or lower levels of power are not for everyone which is fine and as someone said this is a broad hobby and many ways of enjoying it

So often we select the incorrect size drivers for the screws. I have for whatever reasons including what is quick or handy. We need to be careful to set aside the correct sizes for the little screws and only use it (them) along with the good tips offered here on the reflector. My Dad use to

[Elecraft] Suggestion

2009-01-30 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
Hi Eric and Wayne, Since you asked, may I suggest something which may be silly. We all know the VFO B knob changes the menu items and the main tuning knob does the changing within the menu. I make the mistake all the time getting them reversed.. my problem which I can live with, but wonder if

[Elecraft] Need advice

2009-01-13 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
Maybe a problem maybe not! The K3 works fine except the speaker audio has gone away. No external speaker and when unplugged there is no K3 speaker audio either. The headphones work fine as every other part of the K3 does. I've not removed the top or in any way upset anything. I've

[Elecraft] Ranking Rigs

2009-01-03 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
I think to rank rigs for any one person the operating style or what are the most important goals are necessary to consider. This isn't a weird thought, but often overlooked. One friend adds to this does it feel good? Good point. My main interest is CW with SSB decreasing as time moves

[Elecraft] Question on Squelch

2008-12-08 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
On page 56 (SQ MAIN) of the K3 manual the set-up describes nicely how to use the squelch, but it doesn't work on my K3 with version 2.67. Do I have a problem, is it a real problem or is it me? Thanks, lynn W4NL ___ Elecraft mailing list Post

[Elecraft] K3 and the digital modes

2008-12-06 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
Thanks, For the many who responded to my question on hook-up for the K3 using the digital modes, THANKS. It works with MixW using the two cables from the in/out of the K3 to the mic/speaker on the computer along with a serial cable for rig control. Once I figured out that 'line in' had a

2008-12-04 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
Pardon for a dumb question, but I've hit that wall... again! I talked to Dale at Elecraft and he suggested some of you may know the answer as he had no experience with hooking up and making K3 work with a computer so it will work using the sound card to have a full array of modes, etc.

[Elecraft] Knobs!!

K3 and K2 Knobs. Several years ago someone told me about a Yaesu rubber covered knob which would be a plus for my beloved K2 main tuning. Don't remember which Yaesu knob, but could find out if anyone is interested. Anyway, after $16 it was on the K2 and I've always been happy with it. I

[Elecraft] K3 Feedback

2008-11-01 Thread Lynn Lamb, W4NL
