Oh dear me!
If I take a lossless 50-ohm line and terminate it in 100 ohm and measure
the VSWR using an ideal bridge/coupler/VNA/etc that is calibrated for a

Hi Keith,
Thanks for your comments and also to several others who replied
privately. I have now resolved the fault that was causing the +270v T/R
bias line to be shorted and the 270v ERR hard fault to show.
As several others have discovered with the same fault, the problem was

I wonder if anyone can offer some advice please?
I've just put together a KPA-500 linear amplifier kit and everything
seemed to work fine until I switched from standby to operate when I get
a 270v ERR message, which needs a hard reset.
The 60v line is present (68.5v) and the interlock works as
I know the sender requested that we respond directly, but I just wanted to
say, kudos for exposing the younger generation to our hobby. It's the only
way amateur will continue to be around 100 years from now. I'm just one

I know this thread has been closed ...but ..couldn't resist this one ...So
far I'm happy with the 2K but realize that it, much like an earlier Italian

I've thought that ExpertAmps and Elecraft should consider some type of
working agreement. I have a K3 and 2K-FA that play very well together .very
nice for QSK, though I did buy the amp with the after market vacuum relay),

Yeah, apparently they prototyped a single tube (can't remember what the
final was) KPA-1500 years ago ..but never went anywhere with it. I have the
KPA500 and an Expert 2k-FA and they both play perfectly with the K3. The
KPA500 is about half the weight, a third the price, and much much quieter.
I have found this to be true as well.
