Taking the P3 discussion one step further:
Based on the positive experience of other K3/K3S users I have ordered a
Genovation CP24 keypad to implement band buttons and change AGC settings on the
fly. Now, as I understand the P3 cannot handle more than one USB device and if
Elecraft ever adds
I have the CP48 USBHID keypad which is the correct one for P3 users.
It already has the software to show as non-multimedia keyboard as
described on the NK7Z website.

Unfortunately, I can't retrieve the picture that went with the article. Jeff
used a "serial port splitter" but I think a program like LP-Bridge that
generated virtual ports will work also. I ordered a USB keypad

Dave,
Not that I know what I'm doing but glad I could help. Hi
I do know that with a few exceptions both rigs use the same commands from the
utility programs. I am not a Rpi guy; I dabble in the Arduino but I'm sure the
code could be ported over rather easily. Pleas keep me and all of us

Probably would have been a good idea on your part to actually say what

Oh, dear me. Maybe I should have said, "in the radio equipment as opposed to in
the keypad."
The Genovation "solution" isn't a solution. The commands don't live in the
keyboard which was my expressed desire. But of course you knew that.

You didn't-- in fact, you specifically limited your comments to, "*not
in the radio*", hence why I am pointing out that the Genovation meets
your stated criteria-- "*not in the radio*". I bring up where

The Genovation keypad does not trigger anything in the K3, it
The PigKnob stores the commands in the device and sends them to the K3
via the serial port. It plugs into the K3 and the P3 plugs into it. It
is a nice device - I have one sitting on the shelf, as I now have the
Genovation and a K-Pod. Not interested in selling it - I may yet use it
again.
And therein is the rub. All of these schemes, including the K-Pod, I believe,
require recording macros *in the radio* and recalling them with button pushes,
taps/etc.
I would like (and would purchase) a keypad that takes a simple push of a button
to execute a command (recorded in the keypad)

connected to the K3.

I've been using a 24 key Genovations keypad on my KX3 for almost 2 years now.
Love it. One button press to change all manner of things without having to
remember all the steps and commands. 24 keys with the shift/toggle feature
gives me 46 macros.
I used msWORD and a template by VR2SS,
Sounds like a cottage industry in the making. Sell/deliver the keypad in
plug and play fashion along with 10 or 12 macros to be used as seeds and
samples (for modification and copying). Thus allowing easy installation
and learning how to do the macro stuff on the P3 (keypad already

Hi,
It's not that difficult, most of the work is just programming the P3
macros into the P3 as Elecraft instructs you to do. Which was harder to
do than prepping the Genovation, as I used an external keyboard on the
P3.
Once the Keypad is updated, I just enter the triggers one time, hit the

This is fantastic Dave and a groundbreaking development in rig
interfacing. Have you, or do you intend to, physically label the keys?
I NEED one of these.

On Fri, Jan 22,
I'd be interested in seeing it interfaced directly to the K3 without the
necessity of having a P3.
I considered buying one of these some time ago to play with but their only
distributors were in Phoenix, where I am most definitely not. One of them
wanted to charge me Phoenix sales tax since
