I did this mod, and I recommend it, it really makes a difference for hardly
any effort. It is by the way the first mod for the K2 for years!

Great idea, I can see it working without doing it. Should also work nicely
on the KX3.
About the KX3's panel: are its screws self-contained, or are there loose
nuts behind the cover? I don't want to do something stupid.

I'll assume you did not assemble your KX3. The screws that hold the display
bezel on thread into standoffs attached to the control board. IIRC, the 5
screws that hold the bezel (4 around the display, one below the VFO A knob)
are the only screws that hold the control panel in place. Use caution
