Wonder just how many of us have had the pleasure of using N6KR's design, the
NORCAL Sierra? I picked up one on eBay and find it to be one sweet li'l rig.
I've had it on 40 and 20 with consistently good reports. The rx is a
pleasure to listen to. Definitely a keeper!
I read somewhere that
I picked up a Sierra about 3yrs ago. Nice rig but just a prelude to bigger
and smaller better things.

CW Get works pretty well when you monitor something like W1AW doing code
practice (with strong non-QSBed signal) but on real signals you get
drop-outs and a series of e e e e t t tt et te nonsense on very slow
unsteady signals. The problem is that it is the best that I have tried! The

I've used one of K1EL's K20 keyers with my K2. Its an interesting kit with two
PIC's and an EEPROM chip. One PIC is the keyer, one PIC is the
The K1EL website indicates that the K20 will be soon replaced with the K40
at $27 with shipping to USA/Canada.
Awaiting a reply from K1EL when this will be available.

Hi All,
A couple of days ago I was trying to devise a small desktop stand for my KX1
to make it a bit easier to operate while seated at my desk. Having it
elevated and tilted forward were primary concerns. I noticed a couple of
recent posts on the reflector about the same subject and thought
Hi,
I have a problem: No TX Out on my freshly assembled K2.
f = 7100
Vpwr = 5V
Valc = 7,5V
Power reading on LCD = 0.2W (desired 5W)
Power consumption 440mA on 12,4V
At TP2 on transmit I get a nice signal on my oscilloscope, abt 0.005 Vrms
But behind TP2 the signal vanishes. All measurements
Thanks for noticing, Bill ;)
Not as well known is that I had a bit of help from Eric in
test/refinement of the prototype Sierra. So 2004 also marks the 10th
anniversary of our first collaboration.
Also, the Sierra wouldn't have happened without Doug Hendricks, KI6DS,

Yes, I too would believe D36 is broken - it is quite fragile and will crack

You can temporarily substitute a 1N4007 diode until you can obtain a

I have a brand new KAT2 that I built, aligned and tested but never got around
to using it. Thought I would work QRP portable but never did. I bought it about
three months ago and now I am selling it. I have built many K2's and other kits
for many years so it is well built. I'd like to get $140

Hello,
I just installed the KIO2 option in my K2. All works well except that I now
obtain a lot of noise on my PSK31 waterfall display. The noise is effecting
the decoding of the PSK31 siganls. If I disconnect the serial cable from my
laptop, the noise disappears. In the instruction manual it

God I hope not. I know the manual says 35ma in Receive, 40ma max w/

illuminated, regardless of wether the headphones are plugged in or not.
