I am thinking of ordering the ATU for my K1 and I would like to know if
there is an easy loading length of wire for 80-10 mtrs.? I paln to use a
single wire 67' in length with an insulated radial off the rear panel of the
K1. Does anyone have any comments on that?
Thanks, John
Excellent condition K1 (serial number 474) 4 bands (40-30-20-15) with
internal tuner and latest firmware. Also have a 2 band board for 80/17
meters that needs to be finished, it is 90% completed, all the parts are
there. Noise blanker and internal battery kits new-in-box as from

Hi Per,
I ended up buying a Hustler 6BTV and mounting it behind my shack. The
noise is a little worse but the signals come in at least twice as strong as
with my dipole, (however, the dipole is more like a monopole with a single
counterpoise). You may want to checkout

I have notice a few times that I lost the cw tone during tx (pitch) I has no

A reset on this way must set back the basis defaults. I got info 201 and have

John, I assume you mean the modification that was posted a year or so ago

One of the advantages of that mod is that it *does* reduce the audio output
to zero. I can say that mine (S/N 1289) goes to zero after the mod.
In the earlier circuit, such as

Hi George,
I assume that the Astron output voltage is about 13.8 vdc. Assuming a 0.7 vdc
voltage drop across the diode, your deep discharge battery sees about 13.1 vdc.

Scott,
If you aren't seeing anything on LCD display, go back and check the
soldering on the display. The pins are not really long enough and just
barely protrude through the board. I had a problem with part of my LCD and
that was the problem. You may want to solder from the top of the board to

AF gain pot mod on #1400 results in total silence with or without DSP

Mike, the output voltage of the VS-35M supply is adjusted to account for the
drop across the diode and to provide a float voltage of 13.8 as well as an
equipment operating voltage of 13.8 volts. My battery has been in service
now for over two years under this arrangement and remains charged and
Scott,
The most common failure point is a solder joint.
So first check soldering, then re-check the soldering, and finally check all
soldering.
We will need more details of what works and what doesn't (what do you see on
the display, what do you hear in the headphones, and under what conditions,
Scott,
Check that you have soldered pin 1 of the LCD driver U1 on the K2 front
panel board. I and others have missed this joint. Rather difficult to rectify
afterwards, though can be done.

If you decide to solder thepins on top of the board as I did. watch the
barrel of the soldering iron. It is all to easy to catch one of the push
buttons, they burn quicker than a PA transistor running into a dead short. I
know, I burnt the tuning rate button :-(

I just got done with my KX1 construction, including the KXPD1 paddles.
Another very nice setup from Elecraft! My question is how do I make the
paddles less sensitive to touch. I find that the left side (dits) is very
sensitive, and at one point, it started sending dits all on its own. I have

The KXPD1 is the custom paddle we supply for use with the KX1
transceiver. Many KXPD1 users have suggested that we supply a label to
cover the soldered connections on the paddle's 1/8th inch plug. We have
now done just that. It looks nicer than the exposed leads, and the
leads are better
