Guys,
the TS 850 HAS a transverter output. Not the best solution IMO, but it
has.
There is a socket on the rear panel marked IF OUT. This delivers low level
output.
The discussion has been going on quite a while ago, so please check
the elecraft list archives from about May, 22nd through 27th. or
The K2 was picked up yesterday.

Gary Surrency provided part of the answer.
He suggested that I reset the bias adjustment and re-calibrate the SWR
bridge. After doing this, I'm no longer getting hum on 80m, and on
160m, the hum is reduced.
So, if any of you do the KPA100 upgrade, be sure to re-do these
calibrations.

Nicholas,
If you simply set the BFO as indicated in the manual, the answer is YES you
should crank up Spectrogram and adjust the transmit BFOs (FL1) for SSB - and
CW too if you have not done so.
Take a look at my website (www.qsl.net/w3fpr) article on K2 Dial Calibration
for detailed information.
www.mods.dk has bee suspended indefinitely.
I don't know what happened.

next two weeks so I can have it checked and submitted at out next club

Pickup one of the 20' Black Widow fishing poles, around $20 last time
I looked. I have two, and they are great for general purpose antenna
tinkering.
You can suspend a wire vertical on one, or use it as the center support
for an endfed half wave. There's a whole range of antenna

Get a 16-foot Black Widow (etc.) fishing pole and take it apart, using
only the topmost sections.

G'day,
How about carbon fibre fishing rod blanks. Ordinary glass fibre would
work with a flex weave conductor threaded up it with about 10-15cm
sticking out of the top so that the sections can be parted and folded into
a bundle.
Could even be used as a fishing pole.
Someone else will have come
It's old stuff but there's the fiberglass crappie fishing poles by South

end into the sand. 10' model telescopes to 46.25 and is 5 oz. 15' model

Hi Doug,
This sounds like a winner. I called them and found that the 10' version
is just 3.1 oz.
Thanks to everyone else who responded, too.

Hi,
Nothing much to do this morning so was surfing the Elecraft site and
found Gary Surrency's list of common errors that builders make to their K
kits, and while I might be out of date here, perhaps a list like this
included with each new kit might improve the success rate of builds in some

(finally, after 27 years of hamming) going to learn how to use paddle.
Maybe even the darn Bencher paddles my parents gave me for Christmas.

I suppose I could carry the K2 and a small power supply
You can roll off low end by decreasing the coupling capacitor in series with
the mike hot lead, or adding another to the mike alone to effectively do the
same.
You may need to change the gain of the mike preamp to optimize for the Heil
mike.

Greetings fellow Elecrafters,
Somehow I have ended up with a bunch of brand-new Yuasa 12v 0.8 amp-hour gel

I seem to be missing a cap in my K2 serial 4331. There are a couple parts in
question. C198 and C22.
I believe this small light blue cap to be C22 http://www.ctiowa.com/part.jpg
If that is C22, can someone tell me what C198 looks like? Is it a ceramic
disc?
Thanks and 73,

That's where I started out. I then went to k7qo's pages at

how to use the paddles and quit using my keyboard keyer.
You're all very bad influences. :)
