K2 contact with 579 signal at 10 watts on 40 metres. Great stuff, despite a
little bit of fault finding on the way due to solder bridge. Thanks to Elecraft

Kevin, I heard nothing on 20 meters here at Glen Burnie, MD last evening...
Possibly I would heard some who check in if I had listened longer.

I just ordered a K2 and SSB adaptor so while I'm anxiously waiting
delivery I'm trying to get the shack and bench ready for construction.
I've downloaded and briefly read the manuals and I've come up with
two questions (the first of many I'm sure).
1. Are there any mods (part additions or
Nothing special on my side. Just be sure to your kit include the latest mods
about the SSB bandwidth... 2.4 kHz instead of 2.2 kHz... Should be there now
on lastest version.
Be sure to pay attention at the toroids... They are smaller than those in
the K2, and the enamel wire is easely
Craig,
The kit you will receive will be totally up to date, so you need not add any
mods to bring it up to level. OTOH, if you have special needs or desires to
make the K2 behave in a manner slightly different than normal, there are a
number of mods that you can add to do just that - but wait
Finished the KPA100 this weekend and made 4 contacts
last night on 20m. Got all very good reports. It
sure feels good to finally finish a project of this
size and have it work 100% the first time.
I did have a couple of problems during the assembly
and alignment process, but was able to trace
Given to me as a gift but since I'm 99.9% CW I don't have a need for
them. These items are new, the mic has had only a few words spoken into
it... ;-) . I'll ship them anywhere in the conus for $55.00. Please
contact me off line if interested.
Thanks,

Wondering if anyone can help with this one... A local ham friend...has just
bought one of the afore mentioned radio's privatley
there seems to be a problem with the rig on one of the HF bands (15m I
think..although not certain..), where the
K2 price lowered. Other items sold or pending...

Craig,
If you read the manual for the K2 and find the section which discusses
building the display board you will find that you can mount some of the
display parts for the KSB2 when you build the Display board...I started
off using an ANTEX PCB holder to build the Control board until I
Something to watch out for:
The KSB2 manual tells you which set of bypass capacitors to install on
the front panel board on page 1. However, the K2 manual rev F on p.28
directs you to p.16 of the KSB2 manual, which doesn't warn you that
there are two sets of caps of different sizes.

I am still on the fence on doing the wider SSB mode. Has anybody done it and
noticed such a great improvement?
I have had many QSO's. Nobody ever complained my audio was too thin or
whatever.
Also would one have to change the MCU to get accurate SSB bandwidth
indication?

Sorry folks, I seem to have given Russ, N9IV the wrong rig. Not once but
twice. I cannot justify nor determine how in the world a 0 became a 2.
My records all have him owning 4650. How I gave him 4652 I will never
know. My apologies to Russ and to whomever may own 4652. Hopefully this

Fully agree with Don about those 'holder thingys'. For large PCBs I use a
method similar to Don's, but attach hexagonal spacers through the PCB holes
that will be used for mounting the PCB. At each PCB mounting hole I thread
through the male portion of a spacer from one side of the PCB, and pick

You can add the connectors for the SSB board when building the K2, which
will save you a bit of disassembly

Hi all,
Someone just asked me if our new T1 ATU could be built into a Sierra.
The answer most definitely yes. In fact it would fit into just about
any 0.5 to 20-watt rig that I know of, including inside the battery
compartment of an FT-817. (I'm pretty sure it would even fit into an

The Anderson Power plug on my KPA100 has some play in it and when it
