One last note to everyone who might be looking for DE during this weekend's
ARCI Spring QSO Party.
I will be operating portable from DE as NJ2OM/3.
I will operate on the QRP frequencies +- 5KHz. If anyone needs my

Hope to hand out DE to as
Ron,
Thank you for taking the time (typing and editing) to explain the logic (no pun
intended)behind the filter pitch change question. You not only answered the
question but provided an insite into how the vfo and bfo operate in the K2 in
an understandable fashion.
When you write your book,
I must have an early serial number K2. My #2456 doesn't have a mouse port.
No worry, tho. The N0SS led doodah works a peach and was a snap to install.

In the K2, the tuning indicator is usually installed such that it will
blink the 10th LED of the S-meter LED to indicate when you're
tuned to the
other guy's signal. Don Wilhelm, W3FPR, tells me he prefers to use a
separate LED for this purpose, and he mounts a

The mouse port is actually part of the KPC2 option with the outboard 12 inch
flat panel monitor. This option supercedes the KIO2 as it replaces the need for
an outboard PC with a built in P3 1GHz/256MB/10GB with 802.11a/b/g and a bullet
proof OS like Linux.

When I was a Novice, not only did I hear BEST BENT WIRE but we actually
sent dit-di-di dit dit and OM would send dit dit, and then vice versa.
Thee days the only QSO I have had with that was W9ZN, and he sends BEST
BENT WIRE/5 too.

As we watch the reports of newbies just getting their new K2 kits with
serial number approaching 5000 a lot comes to mind.
Aside from the apparent success of some good guys: Eric Wayne.
I think of all the excitement, and back to hands-on that these little

My favorite practice line went like this:

I know this has been discussed on the reflector, but I can't find it in
the archives after a bit of searching. I have the RS equivalent of the
Koss Ear Plugs which work great on my KX1 for an old guy who can't hear

Great ideas. Here is another. Go down to Walmart and
get some Silencio ear plugs from the sporting goods
section. Cut them appropriately and put them on
instead of the foam. Much more comfortable for me and
a better seal.

The ones I found that work were in the Digi-Key catalog and are manufactured
