1. If you dedicate the Sub RF gain knob to adjust Squelch, you get a
combined RF gain for both RXs on the main RF gain knob.
2. If squelch is fully counter clockwise, it is always open with no
threshold.

filter at 3 kHz. signals inside that filter will overload the first
mixer and subsequent stages, well before any later crystal or DSP
filtering can do any good.

Looks like you have a very early K3. In later runs of the main K3 tuning
knob we added a small radius to the transition between the dimple edge
and the front face of the knob that removes the sharp machined 90 degree
edge. (A 90 degree transition makes it harder for the powder coat
