Seems like much of the K3 Reflector correspondence,
and even the discussons of K3 Filters, invariably
ignores the SSB mode in the K3. Is the K3, like the
K2, again looked at as a CW contest rig? For those
hundreds who received their K3's so far, there haven't
been an practical how it works
to
transmit in these frequency regions. That is sort
of Amateur Radio 101.

I notice, every 10th or so Reflector POST, the
sender somehow - posts a single line god-awful
long 1-line message? Almost like there are
CR/LF characters missing?
What results are these 1-line 700 character
messages, very difficult to read.

I had a Heath HW-32 1-band SSB transceiver, in like
1964. Sun spot was good. This rig got out like
gang busters, very readable. Only SSB. I had a
6 foot tube type slidable vertical on the back
of the Chevy II. For what is was - it was a very
good 1-band SSB rig. I suspect it was much more

Catch up on fall's hot new
I was able to get the Rx Sound file to work,
via Microsoft's media player. K3 CW very readable,
in not too quiet a band, and a very faint return
CW came back - had much trouble reading it.
I take it this was a K3 in QSO, and it was
ok. At least this shows that a K3 exists somewhere
out there!
It sounds like the best-sounding transceiver
or ham rig SOUND came out of VACUUM TUBE rigs.
I notice every ham that refers back to
the best sounding rig I ever had
was - is talking a tube rig.
This is controversial in some corners - but
there is something about that gaseous medium,
10 shots in a dime-size hole, time to get better
sights or shoot prone! 10 shots, in 1/4 in H.S.

I've gotten used to the pretested pre-created PCB
and samo samo set of K3 parts and components and
PCB's and . in the K3 kit version.
I learned long time ago there are no dumb questions,

Just turning off HOT WATER HEATER, during long
non-use daily periods, can save big bucks.
We turn ours on, about 1 hour per day, rather
than heating it continuously all day and all
night. We just kill breakers, when we turn it

It seems as if Yaseu has some auto designers, or
civil engineers - designing their human interfaces,
and displays. For some reason the only can design
yellow/orange displays - they all look the same.

Could someone explain, what Dual Receive is
supposed to offer the K3?
Can I transmit on 1 band, and simultaneously
RECEIVE on a different frequency? Can I
listen to 20m SSB and low 20m CW at the
same time? With 1 antenna?
What does the K3 say, that we can do with
this DUAL RECEIVE capability?
The USB (Universal Serial Bus) Interface, is in
fact a very modern high-speed interface. It
actually operates at 3 speed levels, and as
many data and control levels schemas.
It has a Slow, Faster, and Hi-Speed protocol
form.
It can, or cannot, provide power to an external
device - depending on

the K3 - I hope they are not relying on our using
some item like a Tiger Direct USB-to-Serial
cable converter. I have one here on my
desk, that couldn't be made to work with

with the supplied sticky pads. Seemed like they
had bummer poor adhesive, or else the part they
stuck to was waxy or something? I'm not sure if
I ended up using them - or I might have bought

Looks like one has to verify, with available
testers, and electricians if need be, that their
facility and shack and home, are wired correctly
and that the SINGLE
VISE - that is the trick. Just force some (SOME)
of the spring width out of the metal item.
It works fine, if you just squeeze it down a small
amount - do it in stages, as it would be hard to
make it wider again in a Vise.

To take a lead from my former ME associates back
at Kodak's CAD group - I think the Elecraft K2
bail, as designed, has too much K and is a tad
too long. Decreasing length, ever so little in
a vise - makes the whole job and final installation
work nicely. I think the idea of temporarily
that seem to change,
front-panel buttons that don't work correctly,
rheostat shafts that start to bind, speakers that
seem to be distorted?, speaker coils that now bind,
component lead shorts that came out of nowhere,
Doubt it?

logo (ala Kenwood), a K3 Li logo plate, a unique

solder. From all I've heard, the benefits do not
outweigh the problems - using silver solder can
create. IMHO - I stayed away from it, and used

Now that K3 has hit the scene - I'm wondering what
the prospects are of the K2, remaining as-is for
the foreseeable future? Or is there to be a Elecraft
rush, to alter or modify the K2 product? As one
still thinking of building his 2nd K2 - I'd like
to think it wouldn't get altered right out
