I have done the open the transmit frequency software update. The radio will
work on all freqs outside the Ham bands EXCEPT between 7.55Mhz and 8.99Mhz.
Tried to check in to the SHARES net for the first time with my new K3 on
freq aprox 7.6Mhz and got the BND END message.
Any other MARS operators
This blocked tx freq. range is normal. 8 MHz is used for the IF, so
transmitting there'abouts would probably not be a good idea for the K3.
It's written down somewhere, I just can't recall where...

Yes you are correct, just got off the phone with Elecraft ...it is due to the
IF at approx 8.2Mhz.
This is a big deal to me as a MARS/SHARES operator. Waiting to hear back
from Elecraft to see if they can move the freq up a bit to xmit in this
area. Otherwise, I will have to put my TS-480 back on
Correction to my poor grammer, should have said .Waiting to hear back

This is a
Jack,
Transmitting between 7.5 and 9 MHz is not permitted because we have to
enforce a minimum frequency distance from the 8.2 MHz IF (and its
associated IF rejection trap on the KANT3 or KAT3 module). An excluded
first IF region is a fundamental limitation of a down-conversion
design.
Ah, I'm reading my email backwards again :) We might be able to allow
you to go to 7.6 MHz. I have to test this.
tnx

It's one of the reasons I haven't parted with my TR-7. The other reason -- I
like the radio :-)
