Dick,
As Craig mentioned, the KAT2 has the advantage of being very well
integrated with the K2.

It's perfect!!! The Peanut sized Tuner with an Elephant sized
performance and memory to stomp on the competition.

The ElephantCraft CW Net ;) Big ears, good hearing, I like it; it has that

Hi Harvey,
The T1 should certainly work with the XV50. In the T1 manual we mention
a reduced tuning range on 6 meters; this is a necessary compromise to
allow the T1 to be used on the lower HF bands. Losses may be somewhat
higher on this band, depending on the reactances involved. You should
Hi Nigel,
You did a beautiful job of integrating the T1 into your FT-817.
I would like to point out a much simpler alternative for others who may
be thinking about doing this. If you drilled a few holes in the
battery-compartment cover of the FT-817, you could leave the T1's
display/switch
One other thing worth noting Kurt is that when you use a tuner at the tx
end of a coaxial (unbalanced) feedline, then the feedline itself becomes
a radiating part of the antenna system. The ATU will hopefully reduce
the SWR on the line between the transmitter and the ATU, but it will not
Hello All,
Thanks to everyone who responded. I received a lot of
interesting suggestions that should be fun to
experiment on. My final solution will probably be to
add some additional elements on my current dipole for
20m...but it might be fun to fool around with the feed
lines a bit before
Hi Steve,
1. will the T1 tuner ever be made available as a bare
board? (as in, no enclosure)
No. Eliminating it wouldn't reduce the price much, and the case holds
all the pieces together nicely without any extra hardware.
2. does the T1 tuner go into active mode upon being
powered with
And for those who don't know what the -A means: We offer the T1's
both factory assembled and tested (T1-A) and as a kit (T1-K).

Leigh,
You've already figured it out. If you have the FT-817 set for very low
power output (0.5 watts), you'll be right on the borderline of what the
T1 requires in order to tune accurately. Anything lower than this and
tuning won't even start. If the present LC settings present a severe

The relays and inductors would have to be increased substantially in
